If your motherboard is a DDR Ram supported type memory it should be able to take DDR 2100 or higher as most DDR is backward speed compatable, but it may be incompatable with certain types of ram or may need two of the same speed in each slot. Pc 266 is the double data rate of pc133 which in DDR terms is pc 2100

One long beep signals a memory failure - the stick you just bought is faulty. BTW there is no PC266 in SDRAM the maximum is PC133. PC266 is the first standard that appeared for DDRAM. so you most likely have bought something not right from the start.

I have inserted a 1 GB mamory modual and the system is not reconizing the additional memory. Are there jumpers or switches that need to be reset?

No jumpers or switches need to set. If your going to upgrade/change your memory, just make sure that the memory your're going to insert are compatible with your motherboard. Check the system bus of your memory slots if what are the maximum system bus can support of that motherboard. Like example; DDR PC266 to PC400 or PC400 to PC800, make sure that you are not exced the maximum requirements of the memory for your motherboard it is because they cannot recognize your memory.

Memory card upgrade

no! PC266, you can change them to CP3200.
if the clock on the motherboard is adjustable, you may able to get away with PC400. in general, it is not a good idea to do that.

Ddr ram for my motherboard

PC2100 is DDR266 memory. PC2700 is DDR333 memory. PC3200 is DDR400 memory All are backward-compatible with PC2100. Memory is designed to be backwards compatible, so generally you can safely add faster memory to a computer designed to run slower memory, but... your system will operate at the speed of the slowest memory module or system component. Keep in mind that the memory does need to be the same type, for example, SDRAM cannot be mixed with DDR, and DDR cannot be mixed with DDR2. ZT3000 "Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"
