Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 Digital Camera

Pre-focus This is the second sony DSC H5 I have had that worked perfectly for a few hundred pictures or so then malfunctioned. The problem is pressing the shutter button half way down has no effect anymore. As you may be aware half way down locks in the focus and a green light indicates a ready state for taking the picture. Pressing half way down no longer does anything no matter what settings are used. I have changed cards, changed all settings, initialized the camera several times all to no avail. I would like some feedback before I go running off for a repair that will not be under a warranty. Both cameras had the same problem. The second one is no longer under warranty. Thanks in advance.

Mu DSC-H5 had the problem. I fixed it myself. The root cause of this problem is the polymer film on the contact of the shutter button is not durable. it deforms with use. The filim is glossy black in color. you can see it if you remove the shutter button. Carefully remove the filim using a fine blade. It is stuck with an adhesive on to the membrane switch contact. make a similar filim from a OHP sheet( use a paper punch) and replace the old filim.

I am on my second H5 that has just failed for the same problem (no prefocus). My first one they replaced the shutter block but that didn't fix it. Sony service says they have not had any reports of this problem, however; I have found other references to the problem on the net. My wife is trying to find out if they have fixed the defective part design or are just replacing a defective part with one that will fail again in two weeks. they are in denial!

I have a Sony H5 camera. I just notice that if I go to take a picture I press the button, the green light flashers and then it snaps it with pressing all the way down

Greetings - That's how the camera was designed to work. Pressing the shutter half way down makes the camera auto focus. When it's in focus it turns solid green and you then press the shutter all the way down.

I suggest you read the getting started guide that comes with your camera or on line HERE.

Enjoy your camera and thanks for using Fix Ya

I have a Sony Cyber shot DSC-H2. When the shutter button is depressed halfway, it does not focus as it should do. Is there a simple solution to this?

The Sony DSC-H2 and DSC-H5 have a terrible shutter button design and the tiny little "bubble" that is responsible for the "half press focus" can be easily damaged.

If you do a Google search for "Sony shutter button repair" you will see the #1, 2 and 3 links are all for www darntoothysam com. We have done hundreds of this repair over the years!

The repair service is just $70 total IF we can repair it without replacing the part, installation and return shipping of the camera. Please visit our site, we would be happy to service your camera.

Hope this helps!

Shutter speed very slow and has trouble focusing. When I press the the shutter button it takes several seconds before it takes a picture if at all. It seems as though it is having trouble focusing and when...

There is a diaphragm between the shutter button and the shutter switch that causes the camera to focus before the shutter is pressed all the way down. It is likely that the diaphragm is punctured and needs to be replaced. There is also a small possibility that the hidden secondary battery inside the camera is going bad.

Sony DSC H-5 Camera slow response time

There is a diaphram between the shutter button and the shutter that does the focus. Pushing the button half way down pre-focuses and then the picture is instantanious. If the diaphram is broken it take a while before the shutter takes the picture. One of the AA batteries may be defective so try another set and see if that is better. There is also a slight possibility that the secondary battery (hidden within the camera) has gone bad.

View finder

Ok. On your viewfinder, there might be a round dial. Turn it to adjust focus. Otherwise, sometimes viewfinders are like that... blurry, especially electronic.

Auto focus

Are you sure you did not activate "Manual Focus"?
Near the shutter button, there's a "Focus" button. maybe you pressed it accidentally and now you're in "Manual Focus" mode.

If so, press it once more to get "Multipoint" mode back to life...

And read the camera manual. It's a goot place to look for this kind of answers.
