Outer Glass Microwave window shattered after baking popcorn
Shortly after making some standard bagged popcorn (using the "Popcorn" feature), the microwave window shattered. This is a new unit; only in place for a week, and this was the first time using the referenced feature. The repair tech comes tomorrow to fix, but I am curious as to what we cause such a problem.

Hello- I would be careful using the oven mostly because the inner glass will be VERY hot to the touch, meaning you will get burned if you touch it. If you have children I would refrain from using the oven, too risky. If it is just you, or just adults then you should be ok to use it until you can repair it. Keep in mind that you will probably lose a lot of heat out the door and it make take longer to bake. Again, be wary of the inner door glass if you use the oven. Do a test run with a low heat and see how it performs. Hope this helps, best regards.
unless you have a spre from the dealer, then simply measure the fitting dimentions and don forget the thicknes. Then go toyour local glass dealer and ask for same size of glass but make sure its toughened glass and its high temparature tolerant. You can use the same ruber gascket or if not you can buy High temparature silicon silant to fit it back
Very rare, in 35 years I replace maybe 2 to 5 a year out of 1500 to 2000 repairs a year on all major appliances. Make sure you replace it with the exact glass from the manufacturer, usuing your model number. Do not replace with glass from a glass shop.
I am working on a "programmable popcorn button" that a user could set to a time for a box of popcorn bags and reset it when a new bag is purchased in order to pop a bag for a longer period of time, or a shorter period of time.
Sorry noone has thought of this before, but help ism on the way.
Lisa, I do not have a solution, but have the same problem. My KA superba micro has been used about 10 times. While it was off, and while no one was home, the outer glass in the door shattered. I suspect this may be a defect.
It is not a fault with the door, and this sort of event occurs quite often, so is not uncommon.
All sorts of things can cause this, sudden change in temp, getting the glass wet whilst it is still hot, a knock or bang form an earlier time could have weakened the glass.
The list is quite long..
Depending on your household insurance, some policys cover for breakage of glass fittings, would be worth checking.
Plz rate my solution
.Thanks.
will need a model number to tell you the correct price ... most will have to replace the door... you can also give sears a call .. if you gripe loud ... they may replace it for you...
This is not a job you should do. Microwaves are dangerous things and can cause injury. An improperly fitted door will leak. A new door, installed and checked out by a technician is needed here The economics are beyond my area.
