I have had this set for almost 7 years and recently I noticed a blinking red light at the bottom of the set. I blinks 5 times and then stops...it does this all the time the set is on...the color has gone south also..the whites are not pink and the picture is darkening...I tried to adjust the color, brightness, etc but nothing seems to work..the manual said that the blinking light is a signal to call a tech for service..please advise...fran

I HAVE A SONY TRINITRON KV-36HS510. IM HAVING A PROBLEM,ITS NOT SHOWING A PIC, AND BLINKING 7 TIMES THEN PAUSE FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS THEN IT WILL BLINK 7 MORE TIMES,I CAN HEAR AUDIO BUT CANNOT SEE PIC. COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME OUT ,I'VE TRIED CUTTING THE TV OFF FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS AND CUTTING IT BACK ON,SAME RESULTS, THANKS
The 5 blinks indicates a White Balance Failure. This involves checking voltages and components tied directly to the CRT. I would not suggest any attempt for self repair. The cost for this repair should not be significant. Figure a parts cost in the $30-$50 range at worst.
The 5 blinks means a problem in the set's AKB (auto kine-bias) circuit. Sony TV's monitor the operation of the picture tube. When some kind of trouble has been detected, the TV blanks the screen and flashes the 5 blink error code. This may be due to problems in the video circuit, a bad picture tube, or adjustments that have changed due to aging of parts. There isn't anything I can suggest you try on your own to fix it. Because several things may cause the problem, and the proper tools and service information needed to troubleshoot, you should refer this repair to a professional.
The blinking is an indication that the set detected a problem. The code usually indicates a bad regulator circuit. If yu can solder, you can probably fix this your self. Please let me know if you wish to attempt the repair. If not, expect a parts cost in the $25-$40 range plus the local labor rate for the repair.
The light flashing 5 times is normal at turn on as the set is monitoring current drain on the pictures tube cathodes. Any speakers near the set that have un-shielded magnets could possibly cause color issues.
