I found this picture, it didn't say northstar. The tensioner in picture has a half-inch cut-out. Use a 1/2 rachet or break-over in cut-out, usually the longer the handle, the better. You pull the tensioner one way or the other to get slack in the belt, then remove belt from accessory pulley.
Do you have a digital camera? Take pictures of your engine bay, especially the belt routing and save them to your computer for later viewing.
Next push down on your belt with enough pressure to see which pulley arm moves. This is your tensioner,if you put a box end wrench on the bolt of that pulley you can push down on it and release the tension on the belt for removal.
Then look at your pictures as to how the belt was originally installed. You'll need to move that tensioner enough to replace the belt. After replacing the belt make sure it's on 100% before starting the engine.
release tension on belt by:
-put a socket/breaker bar or ratched on the tensioner pulley bolt and use it to relieve tension on the belt
-slide belt off tensioner pulley. replace with new belt in same pattern
across all pulleys and again relieve tension on the tensioner puller to
slide the new belt back on
--you may need to remove the bolt on the tensioner closest to the pulley (i don't know just judging by the picture i found)
---if you don't know what the tensioner looks like look up the
part on autozone's website for a picture you can match on your car
You need to draw yourself a picture before you take the old belt off. You dont mention which engine you have. Check GATES.com on the web, they have belt routing pictures.
