Question about Hitachi 55HDT51 55 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
I have a red line that is vertical from top of screen to approx half way down screen that appears after tv has been on couple of minutes.The line is approx 4 inches from right hand side of screen and is a single column of pixels
Hitachi did in fact stand behind their product and resolved the problem. My hats off to them! Panel was replaced due to faulty ribbon cable supplying signal from one of the drivers. Unfortunately for my specific issue there wasno other solution as the ribbon cable in sealed inside the glass panel.

Snoopmikeym - Have you found anything out on what is causing the line?? I am completely frustrated with Hitachi no tech help what so ever. The nearest service place is in a town of about 500 people and 30 miles away... I doubt they've worked on a 55" plasma before....

I have this issue on same unit. $5000 and 2 years, no extended warranty, Hitachi service asked if I want to pick it up or should they junk it. Estimate for repair $5340! This is not an uncommom problem and Hitachi will not back their product. According to all sources, there is no fix beyond panel replacement. All in all an expensive lesson, I certainly will not knowingly buy another Hitachi product.

Have a tech check your tv the vertical module needs to be replaced.good luck

I have the same problem - blue line on left side - red line on right - both about a pixel in width, begin at the top of the screen and end in the middle. Plasma is 2 1/2 years old.
Have the same problem but its on the left side, green line
I have the same problem with the 55HDT51...Red line starting at the top of TV and extending 2/3rds down the screen. I called Hitachi customer service (1-800-HITACHI or 1-800-448-2244) and they claimed to never have heard of the problem. Yea right.... I think the red line problem lead to another problem than now will not allow me to turn the TV on.
I have had 2 estimates to fix both issues: Red Line problem solution , New Display panel -- $4,000: Not turning on problem, New control panel -- $750
Ouch.......
I now have 2 red lines on the right side extending about half way down. First one was intermittent but the 2 now seem permanent. Very disappointing for a supposed top product.
I have the blue line as well left side, contacted a hitachi service rep anr this is the responace I got.
This has to do with the display array from the panel driver....maybe a lose connector to the panel driver.
Would you want customer service to find you a servicer close by?

I noticed a vertical green line on the left side of the screen that went from the top left down to exactly half of the screen. I called the Hitachi warranty line, ( but mine is 2 1/2 years old, not covered under warranty ) The tech came and told me that the panel needs to be replaced and is not repairable. Basically the t.v is shot. I could either live with the green line or get a new t.v. The tech recommended that I get and LCD, he said the plasma's deterioate too quickly.... but I do love the picture clarity, so I don't really mind the short life span.
My Hitachi is 3 yr, 6 months old. Now it has developed a red line of pixels about halfway down the screen about 6 inches from the right edge. Sounds like the same problem reported in the other posts I see on this page.
i have the same problem on Hitachi 42HDS69 plasma, obviously, Hitachi said they never heard of this. the plasma is 1 1/2 years old, 3 inch of green verticle lines come on after the TV's been on for 3 hr, the time interval is getting shorter each day.
My Hitachi 55HDT51 was purchased in 4/05...it is 3 1/2 years old. Just last week I noticed a vertical red line about 3 inches in from the right side of the display that extends about half way down the screen. This line does not appear until the display has been on a few minutes. I have not contacted HH Gregg (where I purchased the TV) or Hitachi about what the cause is or repair estimates. I purchased Hitachi because I thought their quality was among the best and because I had other Hitachi TVs. Based on what others have posted online as the fix or non fix to this problem, I am disappointed with Hitachi. Way, way too much money for 3.5 years of use on a TV of any kind - plasma or otherwise!!! If I do not get any assistance from Hitachi, I will not purchase Hitachi products again.
Ditto, red line from top to bottom, had tv approx 3 years. this sucks for a tv this expensive.
Add me to the list of unhappy Hitachi owners of the 55HDT51 plasma tv. Little over three years and I'm experiencing the vertical line problem also. Started with one line, then a second, and now a third is starting to show up. Hitachi just passed me off to a service entity that wants $135 to tell me what I'm unfortunately hearing from many of you. Really feel abused and stupid for believing that Hitachi was a quality product. $5000 way to much for such poor performance. I'll never buy another Hitachi product and will defitinitely slam them at every opportunity I get.
