This happened to me a few years back so I apologize if it's not 100% accurate. If you can get it to work on another TV, go ahead and connect it to that, and go in to the settings to select the video input. If it's connected through an HDMI cable, then it will probably be set to HDMI. Change the input here to whatever cable you used in the living room. You will have to power it off at this stage, but when you connect to the other TV it should work.

SOURCE: Playstation 3 Does not display on TV using HDMI or regular video

I posted to your problem with a similar one. I was able to get my PS3 to work by:

1.) Powering down both the PS3 and ViewSonic LCD
2.) Unplugging the power cables to both PS3 and LCD
3.) Waiting at least 10 or more seconds
4.) Plugging in the power cables to both PS3 and LCD
5.) Turning on the ViewSonic LCD
6.) Turning on the PS3 and holding down the power button until the beep

After this sequence I heard the bootup audio and the menu appeared on the screen- which detected the HDMI connection to my LCD.

Very odd.. I've had my PS3 in the same place for months and just today this happened.

I wanted to post my success. Best of luck!

How do I change my resolution on my 32 inch flat screen from 480 to 720

Assuming your TV will support 720p signals, check how you have the TV connected to the Playstation 3. Change your video cable to component video or HDMI, depending on the TV. (The Composite input is limited to 480i (SD) pictures. The same is true for a SCART connection.) Put the TV to the new input by pressing the Input Source button on the TV Remote or through the menu depending on your TV.

You may have to do the first of these steps before changing your cables and the TV input source (I'm not sure). On the Playstation, select Settings and then Display Settings.Choose your video output (component or HDMI). Next select all resolution that the TV can use. (Most 32" TVs only do 720p. There are some that can do 1080i or 1080p.) Confirm the video connection works. Then Save your settings.

For screen captures of the steps, see: http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/3_15/settings/videooutput.html . You should always turn off the TV and the Playstation before swapping the cables. (So you may need to stop and save after setting the output to component video. Then return to the Display Settings menu.)

I hope this helps.

I have the system hooked up and it comes on but not o the tv screen do i need the hd cable to make it work it is a flat screen tv please let me know what to do i have playstation 2 already hooked up and...

Are you using the AV connector cable? If so look on your tv for an av channel. Best thing to do though is Try using a HDMI cable. Most tv's recognise when a HDMI cable is plugged in and the tv switches automatically to the HD channel.
Hope this helps.

PS3 used to work on TV in bedroom and on TV in lounge, now it won't work on TV in bedroom

I believe your Lounge TV is an HDTV and your Bedroom TV isn't, This is what you have to do:
1. Connect it to
your Lounge TV with an HDMI cable and a red/white/yellow cable.
2. Turn it on and go to the display settings and switch it to the composite cable setting.
3. Change your TV channel where you would see the red/white/yellow cable and accept it that way.
4. You should be all set. Take it to the regular TV and connect it with the red/white/yellow cable.
cheers :)

I cant find any place to hook up a dvd player to it, Is it possible? Also What is the jack used for that is hanging above screen on left hand side. I have no manual as my son gave me tv for my bedroom when...

Look for a jack labeled HDMI, Component Video, or S-video on both the TV and the DVD player. You will need a cable that matches the jacks that you have available. HDMI is the easiest. Buy your HDMI cable on line - the retail stores mark them up drastically. Try firefold . com

Ps3 not wworking on regular TV after hdmi cable was used.

sounds like you have the ps3 set up in HD video display settings?

If this is the case hook it up to the regular tv and when you turn the power on continue to hold down the power button til it beeps this restores the video to default settings sometimes it takes a 2nd power down and power up holding it down to work.

If this doesnt solve please give more details

Origiannly had my son's PS# hooked up to our HD TV

You must reset your PS3 in order to accept the new TV configuration.

  • If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system.
  • Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.
