My sony vhs player starts and then immediately stops with scrambled picture

There could be several reasons why your Sony VHS player is starting and then immediately stopping with a scrambled picture. Here are a few things you can try:
  1. Check the VHS tape: It's possible that the VHS tape itself is damaged or dirty, causing the player to stop and the picture to become scrambled. Try cleaning the tape or using a different one to see if that solves the issue.
  2. Clean the player: Over time, dust and dirt can accumulate inside the VHS player, which can cause it to malfunction. Try cleaning the player with a soft cloth and compressed air to remove any debris that may be causing the issue.
  3. Check the connections: Make sure that all the cables are properly connected to the player and the TV. Sometimes loose or faulty connections can cause the player to stop working or display a scrambled picture.
  4. Check the settings: Make sure that the player is set to the correct mode (VHS playback, for example) and that the tracking is set correctly. Adjusting the tracking can help to improve the picture quality and prevent it from becoming scrambled.
If none of these steps work, it's possible that the player may need to be repaired or replaced.

I have a Westinghouse SK-32H240S 32" flat screen

First when tapping changes the picture you have somewhere a bad connection; in electrical board or wiring.
When the screen goes blank after a while means some capacitor is bad/old.

My Westinghouse LTV-27w6-HD picture is scrambled periodically

Before you bother to read the text below, you might be better served looking at this thread:
Westinghouse troubles
If you aren't nauseated yet, continue with my original reply:
If the picture seems 'pixelated,' broken up into randomly sized and placed blocks, then it is losing synchronization with the digital signal coming in. This is certainly repairable and may be due to lousy assembly quality rather than a failed part. Most of our modern sets are assembled by robots but there is a degree of manual soldering still to be done and this can result in 'cold' solder joints that can fracture and fail due to heating and cooling of the innards of a set.
Unfortunately, unless you have a semi-retired TV service man in your neighborhood who is already financially independent, the labor costs could run fairly high for this kind of service since it requires methodical searching of the circuitry and could eat up some time.

Sony KV-27V22 scrambled picture and loud buzzing audio

the variation from higher channels from lower channels, few things changes eg frequency, voltage, and current.
take your tv to a w/shop and have the following
tunner voltage pulse variation on a avo meter has you change channels. if the difference of voltage is not unform when you are changing from to channel then you should change the control ic on the rf stage or check the capacitors a round the rf ic for variations in value.

TV picture scrambled and getting worse

This can be a fault in the tuner, IF, or primary part of the video processing. With age and use some of the parts, and especialy capacitors, in these sets can become thermo sensitive and unstable.

To service these types of faults can be very time consuming. On top of this would be the cost of the parts.

Considering the age and type of set that you have, I would suggest that it is time to be looking for a new set.
