Among the many problems I've had with my iPhone 4S, the most bothersome is it not ringing. This has happened on multiple occasions. And no, I don't have it set on silent or vibrate. All sound whatsoever will cease on the phone, whether it be app sound effects or just the phone ringing. The other problem that is almost equally bothersome is the phone will not connect with my bluetooth in my vehicle. It is so random as to when it will and when it won't. This is my first iPhone and I am not at all happy.
I have an iphone 5s. When i go from my wifi connection (at home) to cell-only connection (like when i drive away), I sometimes need to power cycle the phone to make it work 100% right again. Kind of a nuisance. I'm told that you can make a walk-in appointment with Apple's Genius Bar (if there is one near you) and they will try to fix it. The Apple website has those locations.

you can actually move the button , on the top left hand side of your iphone, over the ringer volume, you will see a red or orange dot, this means the switch has you iphone in silent mode, I was stuck on this, until I found it is a actual switch, look at it closely, you can move it. So where you see the red dot, put your finger on it and move it the opposite way, and I do not mean press the button, I mean, flip the switch on it, then your phone will not be in silent mode anymore,,, this was very annoying, I hope it helps anyone that has the same problem.
cheers!

Ok we have 2, and have had them for 3 years, so here is what it has to be unless its really broken. In the "settings" menu ther is a section for sounds, you can shut off any sound on that phone, the keys the on and off, anything. Look at the ring tone you have selected and see if it's on none, or if you hit the "airplane" button by mistake, that's the only two things it can be, otherwis go on itunes and back up your phone and do a restore. The update the firmware to the latest one, and restore your "stuff", if it still doesn't work, I hope it's still on warantee, because apple charges for everything once it off. I am really sick of their policys, and will be getting the new EVO now that we are off contract. They really nickle and dime you to death, and now your phone is obsolete every year with the 4th version coming out next month. It makes people feel like they were taken advantage of to come out with a new phone a month after they paid up for the current one, good luck

The best way to fix this is to hold the Power and the Home button for 15 seconds or so, basically hold them both until the Apple Logo reappears. I work at o2 and have seen this problem a few times, its nothing major, just annoying
Hope this helps guys

SOURCE: The iPhone does not ring, only vibrates
There's a switch on the left side at the top of the iphone that turns the ringer on and off. Make sure this is towards the front of the phone to enable the ringer
SOURCE: Hi, my wife iphone only vibrate does not make any
make sure the ring/silent switch is not showing an orange dot... it's right above the volume buttons. try to play music see if there is water damage (any pink/red in the charging port or in the headphone jack restore the iPhone in iTunes if that doesn't work you've got a hardware issue
