Hi, I have a GPS 700, it was functioning normally on a trip, when suddenly the image on the screen was the little hands of tomtom. I thought it would be temporarily, but nothing happened later. I tried reset, it went off. And then when i turned it on again it stayed on the "hands screen". When i keep the power button pushed for a couple of second i can see the caracteristics and it said that it was in a stand by mode. Also, the only way of turning it off is by reseting it. I would really apreciate help. Thanks, Juan
Tom tom 700 does not have an external memory card
There are 2 types of reset. 1/ ( A Soft Reset ) is where you simply hold the reset button in for about 2 seconds. 2/ ( A Hard Reset ) is where you hold the ON Button pressed then press the rest button at the same time for around 2 seconds.
As one of the above solutuions says to start with the memory card , I thought I had better comments because the tomtom 700 doesn't use a memory card , it has an internal hard drive. Its likely that a tiny part of the software isnt loading properly . More than likely it's somehow become corrupted on the hard-drive. You should use TomTom home to format the drive then reinstall everything again. This is almost guaranteed to cure your problem unless of course the internal drive has developed a fault . Keep your fingers crossed. Good luck.
This might be worth a try. Go to this link and download the file . This is a startup software fix that clears the flash memory on the tomtom 5xx and 7xx series. http://tomtom.gps-data-team.com/get.php?...

Hi Juanin, just posted this for a near identical problem with a Tomtom 700; When you get this kind of problem with a Tomtom device always start with the memory card, so: 1: remove the card, clean the contacts and if you have an air duster (available from any good hardware store/electronics store) clean the card slot, then reinsert it. 2: make sure the card is readable on your PC to ensure it doesn't have a problem. if this doesn't help then 3: format the card and reinstall the maps & software on to it. 4: make sure the card is reinserted correctly. Next is the battery, leave the device switched on until the battery runs out, switch it on again and it should stay on for a moment then switch its self back off, repeat this until it will not switch on anymore and then charge it for at-least 16 hours before trying it again, this will re-calibrate the battery. Diagnosing a problem is a process and this is just the start of it, don't be disheartened if this doesn't help, just message back with the results.
