If a laptop its usually a shrink wrapped green sleeve with 2 wires red and black and connector on end, the silver cr232 (looks like giant watch battery) is a p.c. cmos battery, flips out if you push on two retainers ive just replaced my notebook rtc battery on a tosh a50 it involved taking full base of with a little memory of were screws go! as if wrong screw and to long nice lumps on inner of your lappy, last thing isolate either p.c. or laptops power including battery as to avoid damageing or killing your board easyiest way of understanding..............

You'll need to gain access to the top of the mainboard, here's a good guide: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaM45/Satellite_M45_disassembly_1.htm In case you don't know, the cmos battery is a round, flat silver object, coin-like. Good luck!

I have laptop sony vgn-n530e i gave bios password but i forgate the password what showd i do

Hi Abid

BIOS PASSWORD CMOS/RTC BATTERY

The only way to solve this problem is to remember and enter the correct password.

On some laptops, it is possible to delete the BIOS Memory by temporarily disconnecting the CMOS/RTC Battery before reconnecting it and reassembling the laptop.

So no damage is done during disassembly and the correct component positions and cable connections are restored during reassembly, this is a job best done by an experienced repair technician.

See below for the location of a CMOS Battery in a typical laptop. The CMOS battery is the rounded, yellow, flattish object at the front centre of the image. While yellow is a common colour, the CMOS/RTC Battery can also be encased in blue, brown, black or green plastic.

On some models the CMOS/RTC Battery is accessible without disassembly, via the Wireless Card compartment underneath the laptop.

On other models, disconnecting and reconnecting the CMOS/RTC Battery is ineffective because nearby capacitors store the data if the Battery is removed and two contact points on the motherboard have to be bridged to dissipate the charge from the capacitors.

The Service/Disassembly Manual for your series of laptops can be downloaded in PDF format from here:

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2008/01/07/service-manuals-for-sony-vaio-laptops-notebooks/

In this model, the rounded, flattish light blue object near the Wireless Card is likely to be the CMOS/RTC Battery.

I hope this helps.

Clear RTC RAM (CLRTC)

This jumper allows you to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in CMOS. You can clear the CMOS memory of date, time, and system setup parameters by erasing the CMOS RTC RAM data. The onboard button cell battery powers the RAM data in CMOS, which include system setup information such as system passwords.
1. Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord.
2. Move the jumper cap from pins 1-2 (default) to pins 2-3. Keep the cap on pins 2-3 for about 5-10 seconds, then move the cap back to pins 1-2.
3. Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer.
4. Hold down the <Del> key during the boot process and enter BIOS setup to reenter data.

Except when clearing the RTC RAM, never remove the cap on CLRTC jumper default position. Removing the cap will cause system boot failure! If the steps above do not help, remove the onboard battery and move the jumper again to clear the CMOS RTC RAM data. After clearing the CMDS, reinstall the battery.

You do not need to clear the RTC when the system hangs due to overclocking. For system failure due to overclocking, use the CPU Parameter Recall (C.P.R) feature. Shut down and reboot the system so the BIOS can automatically reset parameter settings to default values

Sounds like you need to replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard. It will be a round silver disc about the size of a nickel.

CMOS or RTC battery for this laptop : can it be replaced

Hi AshishB, Yes, Toshiba does refer to the CMOS battery in their literature as the real time clock battery. Your retailer is half right, the battery is on the motherboard but its attached via a connector and it can be replaced. Here are links to a couple of venders that sell the RTC battery for your laptop: - Http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Satellite,L15-S104,Laptop,Batteries-Backup-RTC.aspx - http://cgi.ebay.com/Toshiba-Laptop-motherboard-battery-cmos-L15-S104_W0QQitemZ170060189842QQihZ007QQcategoryZ3666QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate the posting.
