If and when I get the ILO DVD Recorder to accept a disk, it says they are all bad disk. I have to unplug it to get it to turn on, unplug it then replug it to play. Then all you get is the disk error.

It has taken me months to figure out this problem, as I used to have it too! The only solution I have found was to replace the dvd burner inside the unit. This can be technical if you do not know what your doing, but here is a great website to get you started with how-to's.

Pursuing awesome's second line of attack a bit further, double check that the blank DVD you're trying to record is the right format. I think your machine expects DVD+R (The plus sign is important, DVD-R is something different). A.

Go online to update the firmware. If that does not work call the company to find out if they want you to ship it to them to correct the problem. There may be a recall on the unit. You do have a firmware problem in most cases. The other problem is that you may have to only use the same disk brand as the unit to get the system to work.

the reason you get lost is using bummer APPS
like nero or worst. do
get Imgburn , free and safe and solid.
use test mode.
the do a test mode burn
it now tells you exactly what fails. (sure does)
and this is why, sure is.(filenames too long or?)

"I know some units require a specific brand of blank CD"

this is not really true.
no player or burner has ODD media restrictions on brand. (ODD disk are really PnP disks that have ID track that tells the host what the disk can do, in every possible way)

sure there are vast brands that are pure trash sure.
just like tires car or the like. BRAND WISE.
like old Firestonedeathtires. (cured by new owners)

The Imgburn does fail on bogus media
let me explain, gee seen it all I have
the china import CD-r. has the ID track all configured illegallly, is invalid. so the burner warns of that pronto.
a blessing that, like :::: illegall(sic), disk size or makers name missing or the burn limits stated are missing (useless hard nut fail here)

a burner can not burn lacking this key ID track set correctly by the maker ( a must be good thing)

a classic case of pure junk CD-r or DV-R or BD-R
try TDK and verbatum and end this junk grade folly.

My Ge Force will burn audio but not DVD.I have tried with Ashampoo,Record Now and Express Burner. The burning programme tells me there is no disc in drive

Hi Brian.

I think you are a little confused.

Your GeForce FX 5500 is a graphics card
All this does is allow you to see your desktop on a monitor and play some games.

For burning discs you need a cd/dvd burner. This is a cd/dvd drive that you can use to read and write cd's and dvd's

You say that your program is telling you that there is no disc in the drive. (Your CD/DVD burner drive)
You can burn audio discs so this tells me you know that much and you have blank cd's so my two things I need to tell you are these..

1. To make a DVD or Burn a DVD you need a BLANK DVD disc in your burning drive. Maybe you have mistakenly placed a CD in the drive instead?
2. Your Burner drive may not burn DVD's only CD's?

Check on the door to the drive that opens to allow you to place discs into it. It should say something like DVD multi recorder or Compact Disc re-writeable. If it does not say DVD on it anywhere your drive is not capable of burning DVD movies and therefore you will need to purchase another burner.

I hope this helps?

Try to clean it first, if it still doesn't work, then it is time for a new one.

Had a similar experience and we found out that the drive had conked out.

GSA-2166D recognized by computer but does not recogniz media?

Try removing the device from device manager, then reboot. Windows should then re-detect the device and re-install the drivers for it. If that doesn't work, try the device on another computer. If it still doesn't work, it's probably defective.

Wont burn cds , files , etc

well it could be many reasons why it wont write your burner but first what software you are using for burning. it happens to me before using media player when i try to burn music. the reason was i haven't configure my media player to use my dvd burner for burning because i have dvd burner and a cd burner installed. Now maybe you try to reinstall it using your dvd driver the one which with your dvd burner when you first bought it.

Ilo-DVDR04 recorder problems

The laser is either dirty or is starting to go.These lasers in this model usually only last two years. To clean but a commercial disc cleaner philips or Maxell work good in this model.Put a drop of rubbing alcohol on brushes this helps clean laser.I would do this every 15 hours of use .The best way to clean laser is to rub gently with a Qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol but this requires some technical knowledge for you have to open burner. If you attempt this make certain electrical plug is pulled lasers cause nasty burns.
If laser is going you can replace the burner/loader unit, this model uses a 411s or 451s Liteon burner. The 401s and 813s will also work without problem.
