I have a Samsung HD 36" X-P3264 and instead of a regular picture, it now has rings of color (red, green, and purple) making the picture colors now look like a bullseye. the picture is also off center. you can still see the screen in black and white with the bullseye colors in it. prior to the rings appearing, it was moved 4 feet. the tv was on a stand that was slid the four feet and was not tipped or tilted.
can anyone help? i would like to know what is wrong with it, what it would take to fix it, and a cost estimate if i take it to the shop.
Thanks,
Mike

Sounds like a CRT (picture tube) that did suffer a bit of a blow to it. The rings are caused by the thin sheet of steel inside of the CRT called a shadow mask being warped. The other cause for this is the internal degauser in the TV comming on and staying on too long causing damage to the CRT. Either way the CRT is over $400 plus you will need to find out what caused the issue and repair that first.
You might have to pay for labor but, the CRT can be expensive so good thing it is under warranty. Post back when all is done. You might have to pay for labor but, the CRT can be expensive so good thing it is under warranty. Post back when all is done.
The degausing circuit is causing the problem then. At least not the CRT and less costly. The degausing circuit is causing the problem then. At least not the CRT and less costly.

The unit has lost its green video information. This can be a picture tube or a green drive problem. The only colors you are getting are red and blue thus the purple picture. All picture tubes have red, green and blue guns to make all the colors needed for a normal picture. It will take some troubleshooting to determine whether it is a drive problem or the picture tube itself. Have a repair shop check it out for you. A 36" TV is worth a check out fee. Thanks for using Fixya. Let me know how it goes.
Hi.
Use component to connect this will give yu HD picture,
On the back of the set you will see A group of 5 phono sockets Blue, Green, Red, These carry picture,
Then Red, White, these carry stereo sound. Component video
Component-video cable
Component video improves the picture quality even more by not only separating the color from the black-and-white portions of the picture but by further splitting the color information into two color-difference signals. When the picture signal is split up in this way, you get an unfiltered, uninterrupted image, with better resolution and greatly improved color saturation. And this is why component video is the predominant method of hookup from HDTV set-top decoders to HDTVs.
So this is how your set can produce HD picture from Hd source.
Check your component cables. You have 3 colors coming in. Red,Green and Blue. Make sure the Red cable is good. You can do this by substituting the red cable only, or just change all 3 cables
Chuck the TV - probably
It depends on the repair facilities available where you live.
In big urban areas the cost of staffing a repair shop is such it can cost nearly as much per hour just to look at an item is it does to buy the next one-plus you get all the latest features.
would this repair be covered under the warranty for the picture tube?
