You don't need an adapter if your laptop has a DVI port. Simply connect the laptop's DVI port to the TV's Digital In port and ensure the laptop is outputting a standard 720*480, 1280*720 or 1920*1080 resolution. If your laptop doesn't have a DVI output then you will need a DVI to HDMI converter cable. Connect the HDMI end to the laptop and the DVI end, of the adapter, to the DVI cable.

If it has one that should not be too difficult to find. Look around the sides of the laptop for a white rectangular port as on the screen capture below.


Older laptops have a VGA port and maybe an S-Video port (like the round one on the image.) Newer laptops may have an HDMI port. DVI-to-VGA adapters are available at computer accessories shops.

On the laptop, did you "enable" video-output to the DVI port?
Most laptops have 3 modes:
* output only to the internal LCD screen
* output only to the external VGA/DVI/HDMI port
* output to both internal and external ports.

What manufacturer of PC laptop?
What model-number?
The key-sequence for choosing the mode depends on which computer you have.

1) Look at your laptop computer to see if you have an HDMI cable port. This port is roughly half an inch wide and provides both the HD audio and video signal. If you don't, you are going to use a DVI port on the laptop. This is the same port you use to connect monitors to your computer.

2) Plug the DVI-to-HDMI adapter into the DVI port on the laptop with the Blu-ray player. If you have an HDMI port on your laptop, you can skip this step.

3) Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI end of the adapter. If you have an HDMI port, plug the cable directly into the HDMI port.

4) Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the HD television. Power on your television, press the "Input" button and select "HDMI." You can now see the contents from your Blu-ray player on the TV.

If you're using a newer laptop look for either a HDMI (looks like elongated USB port) port or a DVI (a female port similar to a serial port but wider. Usually a white) port on the back/sides of your laptop.

If it's an older one, Look for an SD port (Resembles a PS/2 port which you plug the mouse in).

That being said, your TV must be able to pair with one of the above ports.

HDMI -> HDMI (using a HDMI cable)
DVI -> DVI
SD cable usually splits into three, Red, Yellow and White pins. Two for the LEFT and RIGHT audio channel and the other is for the video.

You might also be able to find converters from one format to another.

I looked at the user's guide for this laptop and see exactly what you're saying.

So, the laptop comes with a DVI to VGA adapter because the only port on this system that will allow you to connect an external display is one that connects to a DVI port (in short, you don't have a VGA port).

Okay, you have a couple of options here:

1. You can purchase a docking station which, depending on where you buy it from, will be more expensive than the other options. If you decide to purchase one, first make sure that it will provide the ports that you need. For example, my docking station has one DVI port and one VGA port. If and when I connect a second monitor, I will connect it to the DVI port using a single DVI to VGA adapter (as I don't have any flat panels that connect directly to a DVI port). If you purchase the docking station, make sure it has both the DVI and VGA or you're stilling floating up the same creek without a paddle.

2. You can't use the cable that came with the laptop because it only connects to the DVI port
of your laptop with one VGA connector on the other end, therefore, supporting only one
external monitor. You need either a DVI to DVI and VGA adapter or a DVI to VGA and VGA
adapter.

Okay, now that we covered that information, let's get down to business...
Since you already have your monitors and probably don't want to spend $200-300 on a docking station, this is the best and quickest solution:

You have two monitors both with VGA connectors. Your laptop has 1 DVI port on its side (correct?).
Look at the image of the DVI to VGA and VGA adapter. You need to purchase one of these. It will allow you to connect one end to the DVI port on the laptop and connect your monitors to the two VGA ports on the other end...viola!!

You can use the DVI to VGA and DVI adapter but it would complicate your situation unless you were trying to connect a VGA and DVI monitor so we can eliminate that option unless you are desparate and that's the only adapter you find to purchase.

These adapters are very inexpensive (probably anywhere from $9 to $19. You should be able to purchase them at a store that sells computers, hardware, software, etc. You may even find them at Wal-Mart or RadioShack. If need be, you can purchase one online. However, if you go out and search a couple of stores or computer places, you should find one and be able to connect your monitors when you get home.

If your Laptop have DVI connection and your Plasma have DVI...get the DVI Cable its better.

Most Laptop have VGA interface...

there are cables with VGA to DVI

but if your laptop have HDMI use the HDMI


It would be easier if you will post the PN of your machine so we can search the right specification of your machine

Your computer should have a DVI port to make this possible since your TV dont have a VGA port. If your computer have a DVI port then an HDMI/DVI cable is all you need. This allows you to connect you computer or laptop to you tv through the HDMI connection on your tv.

if you get to see a dvi port then attach it there. if there is no dvi port then look at the cable closely whether it is an adapter or watever
