If you use a XP SP3 install CD it should include the sata driver.

If you are running more than 2GB of memory it will not copy OS properly. If you have more than one HD in the computer go into BIOS and in Boot select the correct HD for booting at the top of the list. Sometimes disconnecting other HD helps if any of them already have a MBR (Master Boot Record) installed which will confuse the setup program.

In setup be sure to use the Format option. If you don't there will be multiple failed OS corrupting the new install. Full Formatting will remove any possible virus infections. A quick format will only partially remove the old files and may not remove a virus if there is on on the drive. (a quick format only removes the old file headers allowing the space to be reused for the new files. Old files not written over can still hide the virus)

Can you look in the bios and see if your motherboard is configured to use your SATA drives in AHCI mode or to emulate IDE mode?

I have a emachine netbook and it say no bootable device

Failed hard drive (assuming one is installed), or could be that it has "lost" the Windows installation.
Possibly a virus, you need to reinstall windows, or hopefully, repair the installation

To do this, as this does not appear to have a DVD rom, you will need the following:
  1. A legit copy of windows (whichever is installed currently)
  2. A spare computer or preferably an external USB DVD Drive (if the latter, skip to the end)
  3. The SATA drivers for this laptop (essential if using windows xp, may not need if vista)
  4. a USB pendrive of at least 4 GB
  5. A USB Floppy drive (possibly)
  6. a copy of win to flash
http://wintoflash.com/home/en/

Uisng the spare computer, extract the contents of the Windows disc to a folder on the spare computers hard drive. Run win to flash and follow the instructions, it will build a boot copy of windows on the pendrive that you specify (it will format the pendrive also).

Copy the sata drivers to the USB floppy drive (you might get away with copying them to the same usb bootable you have just made but I doubt it)

Now, in the bios, set 1st boot to USB drive

Then boot and install, when you reach the F6 prompt, point it to the usb floppy drive and let if find the sata textmode drivers.

Its hould then find your existing windows installation and repair it

IF you ahve a USB DVD / CDROM drive, ignore the above and just install from that, you may need to use a floppy usb to install the sata drivers though

I want istall win xp o/s so i need to change bios setup to detect the hardisk drive. how can i change bios srtup?

Hello,

Here is what you need to do to install XP on your laptop that came with Vista or Win 7.

If your hard drive is SATA (pretty much standard these days) you will need to search the manufacturer's site for a floppy disk SATA driver install package.* You will need a USB floppy drive for installing XP.
* Copy the SATA drivers (should be denoted as "F6 drivers" or similar) to a blank disk.
* Have the USB drive connected. It should automatically map as A:\.
* Go into BIOS and find a setting for ACPI Compatible and set on.
* Now install XP normally from the CDROM, and when it says "press F6 to install third-party drivers", press F6 and follow the options to get the SATA drivers from the disk.
* Complete setup as normal.

or

You can check the following link for more detailed info.

Thanks !!

I have a Toshiba Tecra S3 laptop with a standard Toshiba SATA hard drive (MK6032GSX rv. AS311G). It was a corporate hand me down. It is in dire need of a re-format due to age and virus but when I try it...

Windows XP does not have the SATA driver on the install CD.
You need to download the SATA driver for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB support/download page.
If the laptop has floppy drive, then copy the SATA driver to the floppy and when you boot up with the Windows XP install CD and then press F6 to install the SATA drivers which is on the floppy as instructed..

Windows

You need to download the SATA driver for your hard drive to a readable disk and reinstall xp and when the xp installation ask if you need to install 3rd party driver tap F6 and load the driver from the readable disk you put the drivers on,(This cannot be done on the same drive that contains the xp install disk since removing the disk would stop the installation)I recommend a usb drive,But you will need to enable boot from usb device in the bios first.Or if you have a floppy drive That would work too.

NO INTTALEDWIN XP IN SATA HDD

you need your windows xp disc preferably slip streamed with SP 2 or SP 3 and then you should be able to install it onto your sata hard drive.

If you are having issues then you may need to extract the sata drivers onto a memory stick or floppy disk and press F6 before windows xp loads and specify to use the sata drivers which you can download from the motherboards manufacturers website generally as a zip file which you will first need to extract into a folder.

If that does not work using the memory stick you can use nlite to slipstream the drivers with your windows xp disc :

Nlite download

Non detection of hard disk in dell laptop while installation of win xp sp2

I haven't heard of not being able to delete a partition before. You could go to the manufacturer of the hard drives website and find the software to do a low level format or you could download a linux distribution and use the installer to remove the ESIA partition.

I would need to know the model of hard drive and laptop if you need any further assistance.
