When I depress the shutter button to take a photo the green light turns to red and will not take a photo. New battery. Help?

Red light indicates battery is out of charged.

What type of battery are you using?

the recommended battery for your camera is the AA Ni-MH batteries
now if your using this batteries Ni-Mh and charged it still id did the same thing., How long you already used this batteries more than 2 years now? If yes it means the battery or the Ni-MH is already defective it means that the chemical contect of the Ni-MH is already crystallized and for you to solve it you need to reconditioned the battery or may be purchased a new battery. Gudluck!

My camera just does not seem to hold a good battery charge. I use fully charged batteries and this also happens with Duarcell too. I am only using the camera in the "on" selection.

Some digital camera **** the life out of batteries, especially the older ones, even when off. It stores info like date and time etc. I take the batteries out when I am not using it for a while. True it is a pain resetting the time but it saves the batteries. Also go for the top line rechargebles,

Camera will not work after Ni-MH and Ni-Cd batteries used

Its not good for the batteries to combine different types but it shouldn't have affected the camera as the voltage they produce is the same. Try a couple of Eveready AA lithium batteries.
