Canon i850 7 orange flashes =Bad printhead????

I've read the knowledge base at the Canon web site and this tells me I probably have a bad printhead. It powers on with green and then does 7 orange flashes and the printhead will not come to the center when the cover is opened. So I got a new printhead and installed it, and of course there is no change, still same 7 orange flashes. So now I supposed someone is going to tell me,... well I guress it must be the main logic board then,... right. I hope someone else has a better diagnostic way to tell me what is really wrong. I'm getting tired of "Shotgunning" this thing and buying parts that are not broken.

I have the same symptoms, except that I did not buy a new print head. I did follow the directions and took out the existing printhead and carefully cleaned it. I really like this printer and would like to have it fixed.

For the "Guest" that posted the solution. Would you confirm that you also had the 7 orange flashed,..and that your printhead would not come to the center when the cover was opened. What your solution was to clean the purge station where something was stuck and the purge unit was making a loud noise. Please add all the details you can so we can make sure the fix is for the same probleml. Thanks

I had the same problm the printer made loud noises, the head did not move and the light flashed orange. At the right most position where the print head rests there is a gear, gunk had the gear jammed I cleaned it with a paper towel lots of black ink came out, it is working fine for a couple of days now.

Pixma 4500 Alternate green orange lights flashing Green Orange repeats 12 times pause then cycle starts. Tried unplugging power cable and replugging. Rang Canon tech: no use. Couldn't even tell me what...

12 times is listed an AP position error:

Carefully slide and top covers off to reveal the print head. There is a device that slides back n forth and acts like a window cleaner squeegie on the printhead. This mechanism is probably stuck at its full extention rather than being back at home base. Every time you turn it on and off you should see it try to move but it will seem to be stuck. Give it a little assistance and that should release it. It can get glued up with drying ink. The mechanism that drives the sliding squeegee relies on a spring for it to return and the spring isn't strong, so the whole thing jams up...

which is probably what the code means - jammed mechanism.

Canon i850 light is green then flashes orange 7 times then goes green and repeats orange flashing. Printer never gets ready

This is a very bad error. It means that the printhead needs servicing and may need to be repaired. There is no easy fix. Sorry.

Canon pixma mp210 wont turn on orange alarm light solid no response?

If you can take out the printhead it might power up, sometimes that is caused by a bad printhead. If not that light indicates a bad main logic board and it's cheaper to buy a new printer.

I get 7 orange flashes before the green. What's wrong?

The 7 flashes is telling you that the printhead is bad. You need a new one, QY6-0039-000.

The cartridge in this case is the printhead, not the inks. It's telling you the printhead is bad.

7 orange flashes and 1 green?

That error says the printhead is bad, it is QY6-0041-000, and costs around $60.00. That printhead is soon to be discontinued by Canon and you'll need a new printer.

Canon bubblejet printer i70...Cannot get the ink cartridge mechanism to come out into the open

There are probably flashing lights which tell you the problem, it flashes orange and green lights with a longer green flash and starts over again. There is probably a problem with the purge assembly which won't release the printhead lock. Sounds like a shop repair.

Pixma i9900 orange light flashes 5 times

hi guys,
Flash in orange 5 times indicates that the printhead is faulty so that the printer cannot detect the printhead. Rarely, faulty logic board and carriage unit may cause the same problem.
