Question about Hitachi 43UWX10B 43" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Brightness I have a Hitachi 43UWX10B and noticed suddenly that the picture looks dark. The default setting is '50' so I increased it to '100' and the picture looks normal now. Am I looking at an expensive future fix or is there something I can try to alleviate the brightness issue?

If you want to attempt the repair the fix for most Hitachis going dark is to remove the front panel and get access to the 3 CRT's (picture tubes) Then one by one with the set off and unplugged, remove the CRT boards from the CRT's and blow out the sockets with compressed air. Once all three are done cover it all back up and reapply power and 99% of the time your picture will return to normal.

Problems with brightness on the hitachi 50v810

Yes, they dim as they age, and you've done well to get 3 years out of one.
Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy.

Dark , blurry picture

MTNESTR, My guess would be the FBT loc.TH01(flyback transformer) Hitachi p/n#BW03004 which would be far less expensive than replacing the entire deflection board... A shop could ring test the FBT to confirm the failure. I do know the FBT in this unit has an internal resistor that is prone to failure. It is in-line with the focus block and if it's open it would explain the blur and lack of screen voltage to light the crts properly. The deflection board is about $290-$350 plus shipping and a FBT is somewhere between $60 - $90 depending on the supplier. Hope this helps! Bill

Strange Image Flubbering/Convergence Problem, Flutters From Dark Picture To Light Picture.

you "tooled around with the convergence board" well this chassis has several problems if the convergence doesnt hold replace both stks resolder around that area per tosh tech bulletin the bright problem is probably the hyper module all toshs should be checked with toshiba website to see if they were part of the recalls for power supply caps

Running out of Brightness

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
