I have a Sony Wega 32" that has the same problem Techman showed possible cures for in past replies from other people. The TV all of a sudden just would not turn on. When I try the red light blinks 4-5 times and nothing else occurs. Here are my questions: 1. If I take it in for it to be fixed by a service person how much (US dollar estimate) would it cost to fix? 2. Since Techman stated it is solid state will they be able to replace the part or will they have to replace the whole inside? 3. Although, I am loosing faith in Sony because this TV is a little over a year old and has been used for about 10 hours of use should I insist that they replace parts with only Sony OEM parts? 4. Also, what causes this to happen? I have other appliances plugged into the wall with it and nothing happened to them ie., receiver, speakers.....5. How can I prevent this from occurring again? Thanks!
Don't waste your time to fix it. This is sony design problem. The problem will come again 2 or 3 months after you fix it. Please check what the other people said on Internet.
If it is three blink then that is an indication that there is an overvoltage condition and the set shuts down as took much voltage would damage other parts of the TV set, This problem is in the sweep or main power supplys most likely. Probably a regulator IC or a capacitor? If you find an authorized Sony repair center, you will not worry about what types of parts they used, as authorized centers are told by Sony to use only the correct replacement parts. Also this set can be repaired most of the time down to component level. Good Luck
