Our office is having problems when we are typing on this typewriter. Sometimes it will type and sometimes it will not. To try and fix the problem on the typewriter, I turn it off, turn it back on, sometimes that fixes the problem, and sometimes it does not fix the problem. We are not sure what is going on with the typewriter. We have a new cassette ribbon in the typewriter, so I know that is not the problem.

Can be your touch first, need to snapply depress and let go of the key.
2. if you type 12 h's in a row and it skips you more than likely have a broken escapement gear. Not really fixable.
But it would be the same every time if you continued typing say 24 h's.
Hi Many brother type writers have two cam assemblies under ribbon holder. One operates the print hammer and the other operates the correction ribbon lift. sometimes they gets stuck or lock themselves up. turning on and off a few times will take care of it, but sometimes it needs to be worked on by a tech. If you look when you type a character, most likely the print hammer is not firing or it is striking the correction ribbon instead of the black ribbon. Let us know if you want to know something more else please accept the suggestion. Thanks for contacting Fixya.com

Is the platon properly seated? Sometimes the platon (the rubber tube thing that you crank the paper around) has been removed and then not returned all the way down into its cradle. Try pushing both sides down with equal pressure and see if it drops down and tightens. Good luck!
