Every time I try to scan I get a message (scanner is locked, disconnect the USB cable , unlock the scanner and reconnect)The problem is the scanner is not locked, it only thinks it is locked.
Like mine and all of you above the scanner has the same problem of moving a few inches and then the error message disconnect.... unlock ....etc the best solution is throw it in the bin and never buy cannon again. if they cannot come up with a solution that everyone is having with there (approx $200-$300) scaners that dont want repeat business. they wont get if from me thats for sure. good luck everyone
Hi, there are a couple of things you may want to try. Some of these if not done right might make you loose access to your scanner, proceed at your own risk. 1) really lock your scanner before booting to windows, then proceed to scan, then it will tell you that is locked, follow directions, remove, unlock, plug back, proceed to scan; or 2)use a different USB port (front and back/side); or 3) download and use (preferably new) drivers @ http://alpha02u.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?SV=WWUCA900 or use the CD installer that came with the product. Uninstall your scanner: right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, look for your scanner, right click, uninstall. or Start, control panel, add/remove programs, remove your scanner programs. You have to reinstall them all again (better with new drivers). Hope this work for you and good luck.
Same thing happened to mine, eventually got so annoyed with it I held it upright (so that the scanning array was at the top) then shock it so that the array moved down about 3 inches. Once plugged in again it rolled itself back to the start position and recalibrated itself, job done and all is fine again. Another one for the old 'if it doesn't work, hit it harder' school of thought.
I am having the same problem with my scanner. It says that it is locked even though it isn't. I can get the scanner to do a preview scan, but it just shows up black and gray with a vague outline of the picture. Then when i go to actually scan the picture it says that it is locked and needs to be unplugged and unlocked. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

EXACTLY THE SAME. MOVED IT FROM HOME TO OFFICE, WORKING IT ON THE SAME VP PRO SYSTEM BUT CANT GAT ANYWHERE WITH IT. DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE AS IT WILL NOT ACCEPT DISC SOFTWARE. AT MY WITS END. ITS ONLY DONE A DOZEN SCANS. DISC SOFTWARE SAYS "TWAIN" IS NOT PRESENT. ANY IDEAS PLEASE.
I am having the same problem with my scanner. It is a visioneer 6200 USB scanner. It sais that it is locked when it is not. These are the exact steps I use before the message appears. I open my paperport program. Then I select the twain option. Now is when the problem starts. If I select the preview option for my scanner the following things happen. My scanner lights up and prepares to scan the image. Then it moves 1/6 in or so under the glass plating until it reaches the lock,(WHICH IS UNLOCKED AT ALL TIMES) as it does so i hear a light grinding noise not very loud but loud enough you can hear it but the scanner has always sounded like that since the first day i bought it and it worked fine then. As the grinding noise fades a message appears on my screen as follows : Please verify that you have unlocked the scanner hardware. The lock is located on the bottom of the scanner. Click OK after you have unlocked the scanner. Then I click ok and try to scan something but i just get the same message again. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. You can email me, Thanks.
Very same with my canoscan lide 25, since I reinstalled it on a new compy.
I reinstalled the driver many times and changed the USB port .
Without any luck.
I didn't get violent so far like the user above , but I might well end up using his method as it'spretty damn annoying for an illustrator >_< lol
