you need to check the ignition switch it sounds as if it may not be making a connection. The key has to be in the run position for the car to run after releasing the key. Hope this helps.
hi think its more like a blown fuse tail lights dont normanly have relays as they dont draw a lot of wattage.dash lights are on the same fuse system as tail lights its a way of warning the driver that theirs aproblem

Hi its rob here what make and model of car is it? it sounds like the light switch is faulty but that wouldnt stop the brake lights workin try two stop and tail light bulbs then if you have stop lights your switch is at fault
