Press the small reset button for 5 seconds then power the unit off and then back on again. Garmin Master reset on nuvi 30, 40, and 50 series devices: Note: A master reset will erase all favourites and will restore your device to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favourites to your computer, you can find instructions to do so see below. Although the master reset will erase all saved favourites, any loaded custom points of interest will remain intact on the device. 1. Start with the device OFF and unplugged from power 2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil 3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the device ON 4. Release the power button when the device powers ON o You will see a new message: "Erase all user data?" 5. Remove your finger from the touch screen when this message displays 6. Touch Yes o If text language is not in English, this is the button on the right The device will now reset. Follow the on-screen prompts and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites. Locate and double-click the GPX Folder. o Some devices require you to open the folder named "Garmin" or "Internal Storage" first, then the GPX Folder. 5. Right-click and copy the Current.gpx file. 6. Then it would seem you have no choice but to go to an authorised garmin store / repair shop to get the unit serviced.

When you have the screen showing up the route to your destination, if you touch the box down in the left hand corner showing the estimated arrival time the screen should switch to show your current speed, max speed, compass etc.........

The simple way is to send the unit to Garmin they will load the maps for free.
If you keep trying - try this -
With your thumb in the lower right corner of the screen - pushing in - like there is an X there - [ push with your thumb before you turn it on] Turn it on -
when this screen comes up - push YES -
then try your maps.
If they do not load on your pc [ which must have the unit hooked up and a legit copy of the newest maps ] then send the unit to Garmin. They will load your maps for you FREE.
