Akai PTH5498 54" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television Logo

Hd ready? This is really "dumb"...but before I ordered high definition service from DISH, I checked my owners manual for my PTH5498 akai tv and no where does it mention it being HD ready. If it wasn't for finding this website I would have assumed it isn't. As long as I'm asking...has anyone upgraded to high def with this tv. My DISH picture is reasonable, but not all that sharp. Assuming I can order high def service, it would be helpful to know of other's experience. thank you. mudman

I have AkaiPTH5498 model now I had HD network coming in with HD box to my TV. The box menu to set up HD has the setting 720 and 1080i but when I try to set this HD setting my TV will not work. I call the network and they told me my TV have to be set for HD 1st. I can not find any settings for HD on my TV menu. My TV is suppose to be 1080i ??? Is my TV capable of 720 or 1080??

On any High Def TV, the reciever you need for this set, which does not have a HD receiver in it, is half the equation. Most HD channels have some HD content mixed with SD content on the same channel. SD content on HD signal from cable or satellite tends to be slightly blocky due to the native signal resolution and the resolution of HD (1080i/p or 720i/p).
