TV will not power up...standby light just flashes green

I have a KDF-55XS955 tv that is less than 2 years old. I have a problem where my tv will not start up. when i turn it on the standby light just flashes green. There is no set number of times. It seems to do it like 36 times and then pause and starts over again. I had a similar problem before and I unplugged the tv from the wall for a bit. Once i plugged it back in, it has been working for over 6 months. now the problem has surfaced again. I have contacted sony about this problem, no information was given over the phone of course and a technition needs to be sent to my house. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what part might have gone bad? The lamp light is not on so im assuming that the bulb inside is still good. How can sony make a tv that doesnt even last 2 years!

Mine is a Sony KP-51WS520 that is doing the same thing. It is only about 2 1/2 years old. I didn't buy the extended warranty because I was buying a Sony. So much for reputation.Called Sony...no help.

My Sony 55" is 2 1/2 years old. The green power/standby light flashes many times then the tv will eventually turn on. I replaced the bulb recently so I know that's not the problem. I bought Sony based on reputation and product quality. Called customer service and told me to check that bulb is secure and to unplug tv then reconnect.

Television shuts off after being on a short time, then shuts off immediately after subsequent power-ons. Red power light flashes four times. Overheating does not seem to be the problem, as there is no warning message and fan is working properly and TV ventilations are not blocked at all.

I had this same problem and simply unplugged the tv and then plugged it back in. Problem solved. I've had the TV about 1 1/2 years and no problems until now. I'm glad it wasn't something more of a problem.

Hello dbldown768, I had some what the same problem. The tv would just blink & sometimes come on & sometimes not. If I let it set off awhile it would work. So I changed the bulb & it worked great. Hope it helps

Dear dbldown768, I have a paperweight that's just over 1 year old that does the same thing. I paid $90.00 to have a tech come out hoping it was a warranty issue or a defect that sony covers. They check the bulb and it was good but had to take the tv. They called a day later with a $500.00 estimate and said the problem was the C-board blew because the vent fans got clogged with dust because the tv was too close to the wall. The tech said it needed to be at least 12" but funny the instruction manual says 4". I contacted sony and asked them and they couldn't find the manual but would take my word for what it said. They gave little indication which was correct. They sort of stood by the manual but claimed not to be a tech. After digging I found that this tv was put on the market without proper testing as required and they already admitted to a problem with the optic block. Check out this web page http://attorneypages.com/hot/sony-grand-wega-tv-problems.htm. Although our problem isn't the optic block the fact that sony has owned up to placing the product on the market without proper testing makes me feel it's sony's responsibility. The webpage says that customers feel that sony is giving them the run around until some cutoff date of 9/30/07, I've found nothing but run around myself. I'm planning on submitting a claim either way, contacting the Better Business Bureau, Sony's Executive Reviews Committee and I'm considering getting my free consultation because this is awful! I hope the webpage is helpful and best of luck to us both!
