I have a Pansonic DVD recorder and I cannot erase any recordings anymore
When I try to erase watched recordings it just will not erase them anymore and just makes a clicking noise and then goes into the recovery mode. I then cannot eject the disc or turn the unit on or off for about 10 minutes. It plays perfectly and records okay but it just wont erase. I have had this recorder approx 2 years but it has hardly been used.
Please help.

HI WE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM. THE SOLUTION WAS CLEANING THE DISC. IT APPEARS JUST TINY FLECKS OF DUST AND GREASY FINGER PRINTS CAN CAUSE HAVOC! GOOD LUCK

The DVD has burned incorrectly and the data has likely corrupted somewhat to the point where the DVD player/writer can't read it. You may be able to watch it on your computer with a DVD drive.
Try saving it to your computer, then erasing the disc and trying to record something short to it and play it back - if it plays back, it's likely to have been a recording problem, however, if you get the same problem, it may be a dodgy disc, a faulty DVD player/writer, or a format problem.
Try this, in order left to right.
Copy DVD to PC -> Erase DVD -> Record on DVD from TV -> Play back
If plays back
Erase DVD -> Continue as normal
If not
Buy DVD-RW (emphasis on the minus) -> Try using that
If that works continue as normal, otherwise...
Return the DVD player/writer under warranty for repair/replacement.
You must check its power regualtor baord to get the fault. Sometimes, it may need replacement as card basis. Contact the nearest authorised center for pansonic.
Sorry this isn't a solution, but I just want to commiserate with you. I am having the same problem. I guess the problem started about three weeks ago. The recorder will not recognize any blank DVD-R discs and it only recognized 1 out of 4 new DVD-RAM discs. It would read most of my older DVD-RAM discs but would refuse to erase some of the old recorded programming. It also refused to recognize some of the older DVD-RAM discs, so in frustration I reformatted one. I was able to record and watch a couple of shows, but now it is saying "Unformat" for that disc.
About a year ago, the DVR gave ma some trouble and I was able to fix it myself. (I think it suddenly wouldn't power on, but I don't really remember if it was that or if it was a "SELFCHECK" error.) I had to open up the case and replace two capacitors. I bought the replacements at Radio Shack and my son helped me solder them on. My next step with this DVR will be to open up the case and look for any obvious problems. The worn-out capacitors looked oily and damaged, as I recall.
I have the same unit. Similar problem but mine does not erase the disc. It says disc error on almost all dvd that are store bought and kicks them out. Will play almost all of the ones I recorded on it and finalized. I must let a disc in it at all times or door will not open. Lots of bad stuff on the net about this unit. It is a lemon! Mine is out of warranty and sony wants $175 to fix. Saw some blogs where it was serviced 3 times and still not right. Buy a new one before investing in the unit you have as there are many gremlins in it! Sorry I cannot offer specific help but this is where I am at!!
