press the index sheet button and the scan button at the same time, you then get setup menu. use" >" to select "change ink cartidge". the ink cartidge will move to the opening position. lift the grey plastic clip at the back, and it will open towards you. then they just pull out
there are 4 cartidge in the printer , and usualy when getting empty , message will tell you empity ink ,
1- try to open and close the ink cartidge more than once .
2- before that check the cartidge front out let ( should be opend) by turning the niylon on it , this should be done when inserting the cartidge.

Ok, you may have blocked printheads. Remove cartridges, using a cleaning solution and cotton buds (q-tips) thoroughly clean all residue. Now replace cartridges and try again.
