Canon Rebel XT Auto focus Error 1 Problem HELP

OK, heres the deal, I have tried three lenses on my rebel xt, all i get is a error 1 code, when tried on another rebel xt a friend has all three lenses work fine, i cleaned the contacts and all that good stuff, when used with a manual lens the camera works fine, but you have to focus it yourself, if used with any Af Lens it gets a error one code, if you don t lock lens in all the way, and back it off the contacts it will work but you still have to manual focus..........any advice out there in photo land would appreciate it,,,,,,,,,,,,,

MTokina lens with Canon Eos Rebel. Error message that the lens is not communicating with the camera. Clean ? this is quite annoying and is happening 95% of the time. Turn off and sometimes camera takes...

It sounds like the lens isn't properly compatible with your camera which can be common on third party lenses. You can either set the lense and the camera to manual focus and focus the images by hand or sell the lens and find one that works in auto mode with your camera.

My Rebel XT is NOT focusing sharply. It is on Auto focus and even when I put it on manual focus it is soft. The lens is on tight. It was working and sharp on Monday and on Wed. the shots seemed soft....

Try looking here for a firmware upgrade:-

If that doesn't help, this is the url for their main support page, there online techs may be able to help.

Canon rebel xt 1. image looks blury in eye

1. The viewfinder's diopter is probably out of focus (doesn't affect Auto Focus of photos). There's a dial and a +/- symbol next to the viewfinder. Turn the dial till you can see clearly through it. Alternative reason: The glass in the viewfinder is dirty/foggy. Use camera cleaning solution (a drop) on a cotton bud to clean it.

2. Malfunction needs Canon Service Centre to take a look at.

I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT with the original 18-55mm lense and a Quantarey 70-300mm lense. Have had all pieces for 3 years now and everything worked great until last night. Camera focuses and...

This means that the communication with the Quantarey lens is not the right one.

You can try in cleaning the lens contacts and the camera contacts with a pencil eraser or a white erase (flip down the camera so no particles get inside the mirror box).

If still you are having problems, then that means the Quantarey lens is defective, and either needs to be service to be repaired, or you will need to get another zoom lens.

Best regards,

Lack of focus

I knew the problem was with the auto focus. First time I called the camera shop..they said "bring it in, we'll diagnose it...for about $200.) I tried a cvouple of days later...he said they would trouble shoot for free.

HOWEVER...he said to check to see that the lens was seated securely and correctly. I had taken lense off a few weeks ago and it was not reinstalled correctly. One small twist of the lens and back to perfect forcus!

Camera won't shoot with lens on Auto Focus

Talked to canon support, they suggested to send lense in for review/repair. They said it could be the motor, I think it was a gear problem based on the noises and jerkiness of the focusing action while in manual focus (manual focus gave out as well). Cost TBD - "would definately be more than $50. I shopped around and elected to buy a new lense rather than try to hassle with the repair, shipping, insurance, and the wait, etc. Besides, I have a deadline that I need the lense for, so repair at Canon really became a non-option. I think the cost would've been pretty much the same in the end as the new lense, since this wasn't one of the costlier of lenses to begin with.

Can't tell when Rebel xt is focused

So the problem is that it always looks blurry?
If so, look at the little dial that is coming out of the viewfinder. It corrects the viewfinder for people with bad eyesight, kind of like built in glasses. make sure the white marks are lined up.

Spots on Rebel XT image

Dust is something that will need to be addressed. Get a Visual Dust brush and learn how to use it. You can help reduce dust by 1) changing lenses with the camera body facing down and 2) turning off your camera when changing lenses.
