I have a Samsung DVD SH-W162 writer. It shows up in Device manager. When I put a cd or dvd in it, it looks like it is searching the disk, but eventually locks my system up. I am using Win XP SP2. I have tried to download the latest drivers for it. I have uninstalled it and let it install with Windows drivers, but no change. I have put it on its own cable as Master. Still nothing. I plug a different drive in and it works fine.Any ideas?

Re: Samsung DVD writer
Sounds like you have done all you possibly can, it may well be that the drive has finally given up and a replacement is neccasary.
You can try to repair the autorun .inf file, but i think a replacement.

Check that the drive is 'Reading'. Put a disc in to play. If that is OK then it would suggest the 'write' lazer is dead. To prove this try another burn software. If still introuble - replace the drive - there will be no repair option.
first of all make sure that your dvd witter is light scrubber compatible by reading your dvd writer manual.if you want to download a new software plz click to the link below .
if the pc reboots, then a driver or hardware fault is the cause, try uninstaling the dvd drive in device manager, then restart pc to install it again, or if you are able connect the dvd drive to another ide cable connector incase its a fault from the motherboards ide channel.
