Question about Mintek Portable DVD/CD Player w
Problem: Stopped Playing DVD's, but- music CD's play fine. Message: "NO DISC". I feel that all is needed is to align the DVD reader, since CD's play just fine! Observations: 1). DVD disk does spin. Says "loading" makes noise. 2). Comes back after about 2 min. with "NO DISC". 3). Tried other DVD disks, same problem. Things tried. 1). Cleaned the "Eye" with a q-tip with Isopropyl Alchol (DVD's still didn't play, but- music CD's do play). 2). Cleaned the "Eye" with a q-tip with Acetone (DVD's still didn't play, but- music CD's do play). Cause: Not sure. The 13 year old girl is very careful with this item because it was a special gift. It cost over $200 USD at the time! Everyone wants to charge $100 min. for parts, to look at it is free, but- won't say how much to fix it. Notes: You can buy lots of broken MDP1825 DVD Players on e-Bay for $0.99 so I just hope it's not junk! I want to fix it for her but the cost to have someone repair it is to much based on todays prices for players. I have looked for a sevice guide for the MDP1825 to see how to align / adjust the DVD side of the player. (No Luck finding one). I'm not bad with tools since I work on PC's all the time, but fixing a DVD player is something I have not done! Can you offer me a solution to this problem. Thx
Okay, i tried this, and it didn't work. I had to find some isopropyl, which took me a while, and i have a feeling that this thing is unreparable. Anyway, i don't know how to adjust the laser, so juan's idea is probably out. Anyway, these things are always cheap on ebay, and even one that isn't 99 cents will work. I have no idea how much this thing cost, so i can't set a goal. Thanks anyway for the ides, and keep trying.

Have to agree with juan, more than likely optic faulty.will play cds as less power needed from optic to focus on tracks laid down on cd.more power needed on dvd as tracks are laid closer together and optic has to work harder to read information.

Qtip , alcohol and acetone ? I am almost sure that you have already ruined the lens. In many of the CD or DVD players that I have repaired, the problem is the degradation of the power of thelaser. Im computer drives there are cases that I was able to fix the porblem by adjusting the power of the laser. this is quite dificult as the trimmer potentionmeter is very small and most often very hard to access. Usually this trimmer is located in the laser assembly.. Another dificulty is that the adhustment should be procise, too much power will also not work. My success rate of this procedure is only about 50-70 % But because you already cleaned it with Qtip, maybe the lens are no longer aligned and because of the alcohol and acetone, the lens may not be clear anymore.
