Question about Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer
I posted a problem here about a month ago regarding my Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer. Simply put, it stopped working. The display shows nothing at all. The drum light works when the door is opened so I know it's getting power. Here's the advice I received: "In such situation the problem could be the bad membrane switch or the bad control board. I need you to check the connection between the membrain switch and the control board. Unplug the power cord. Remove the four screws securing the console to the rear cover plate. Grasp the top of the console and gently rock the top of the console forward away from the rear console back. Note the hooked tabs on bottom of the console, which engage the slots in the top cover. Locate the membrane switch ribbon plugged into the control board. Carefully remove it, inspect for any damages and plug it back into the control board. Visualy inspect the control board for any burned parts. If any, the control board has to be replaced. Reinstall the console back, restore the power and check the dryer." I've done everything advised. No burns on the control board, membrane switch unplugged, replugged. Everything looked clean and unremarkable and yet when reassembled and plugged in nothing had changed - no dryer. So I'm still stuck and need help.
I have had the same problem over the past several months. Typically it would clear itself out (clear 8.8. on display) after several minutes. Today it reoccurred but this time it would not clear. I knew it was a problem with the control board. So I removed the control board and discovered that the capacitor for the 5VDC power had ?popped?. I replaced the capacitor and every thing worked! Hope this helps.
