Acer AL1714 17" LCD Monitor Logo

Question about Acer AL1714 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Acer AL1714 My monitor flashes the acer logo for less than a second and then goes black, after 10 seconds or so it goes into sleep mode. If I have a video signal going into it, it does not go into sleep mode. The power supply is supposed to have 19VDC, it has 18.8VCD but I suspect that it cannot deliver the required current 51W. Thanks for your input, Shaun

OK I have the same monitor, I was given it by a client when I couldnt fix it, I DO have the 19V supply and still getting the same problem.

If you open it and reseat all connections you can reach, I find it starts to work. Unfortunately after less than a few days use it goes off again.

Hopefully this can help someone get further

Monitor goes black seconds after showing desktop

Does your monitor go black because it went to sleep, does it turn off? Do you have any lights on the monitor to indicate what it is doing?

Also I would boot into safe made by rebooting the computer & tapping F8 when the bios appears. You should be prompted with several options, one of which is "Safe Mode". Choose this & report how the monitor behaves.

My Acer AL1714 monitor was given to me, the person that gave it to me said last time the last time it was connected it work but the monitor had been stored for about 2 years. So I bought a 19V-2.3A power...

mccampbell71 Probably a failure of inverter circuit(dc to ac 600-1100vac) to light-up (sustain) "cold-cathode-fluorescent lamps" causing the "switch-mode-power-supply" to go into full or partial SHUTDOWN mode. Black Screen of Death strikes again!!! The Question I have is why did you BUY a "black-brick" supply? Did the other one fall out of the car or get run over by a train? Only you will be able to make the decision of to REPAIR or Trade-in for new. You are no different than 5000 others worldwide (all brands) who have monitor's with BSOD! Yes, some (75-90%) can be saved to work 1-3 more years! Read some of my other responses in my profiles (12fixlouie aka louie12fix) to learn of the options you have open to you. Power supply on 17" acer monitor

franh, Typical of a lcd/fpd monitor! There is nothing you or hundreds of others can do to repair it all by yourself. I have repaired 3 monitors and helped tutor 2 others on fixya with their monitors. All had same exact symptom as your monitor. I need you to do a simple test for me. With failed Acer monitor near to your Fully Booted PC with a known good desktop being displayed on back-up monitor, quickly swap out the monitor cables from the back of the PC. Keep touching the CTRL key on you keyboarb every 30-50 seconds to keep the PC from sending out sleep mode command to monitor while doing the reconnect of acer to your PC monitor output port. Make sure the Acer also is connected to a live wall outlet/power strip. Turn on the Acer and note what happens. If screen shows a sharp clear image for a second, then goes black, do the following. Get a bright flashlight and shine it on the screen from a distance of 1 or 2 inches and tell me if you can see the desktop display. get back to me with your observations. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aol.com.

Acer al1714

The problem may not be the monitor. Acer AL1714 is known for its weak power supply unit. Unplug power supply from monitor. If the green light on monitor comes on but goes out quickly, the power supply is the culprit!

Monitor repeatedly flashes Acer logo and computer display in cycles

We had the same problem with the 17" we bought in Aug. Sent it back for repair. Acer sent it back without fixing the problem. Started doing it again in Nov. This time I called a supervisor and they sent me a new monitor. Well yesterday it started doing the same thing. You can fix it temp buy unplugging it and holding down the on-off switch for 30 seconds. Please let me know if you have a better fix.
