SD-P5191 Pioneer control inputs lock after startup
Unit will start and if you immediatly change channel, mute, etc. it will take one input and no more. A string of random characters stay all across the bottom screen where the volume level display should be shown. I would like to locate a schematic or any other help. Thanks

Universal remotes offer limited functionality such as volume changes and channel changes, muting. Often, there is no working input function with those remotes and you have to get the original one for that to work. Ouch.
ManualsLib has the manual for the SD-533HD5 here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/384249/Pioneer-Sd-643hd5.html . (The manual covers two models.) Once you modify the picture parameters (starting from STD, REF THEATER, GAME), these are stored as the User mode. If you press Menu when done changing the parameters, that input should maintain the User settings for the last setting until you change the Picture type. If you modified the parameters for STD and then return to that input and change the Picture to GAME, any modifications to the GAME picture parameters will become the new User Mode. See page 50 of the manual for the details: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/384249/Pioneer-Sd-643hd5.html?page=50#manual .
Consult the owner manual (you can GOOGLE to find one with the model number if you do not have it) to see if the set has a feature to lock out channel being changed---this feature is on some sets so if using a box children etc cannot change the channel.
You can also try to route your signal to a rear audio/video input and change input to that input and change channels with the box if you use one.
What you have done is change the input source. It will toggle through various modes like component, HDMI1, HDMI2, S-video etc., You should take a look behind the tv and see which input you have connected it into(usually HDMI 1 or HDMI2) then keep pressing the input button till it toggles back to that particular input.
Try pressing the "Input" button the front of the set. That should allow you to change between the different inputs. The return button usually returns you to the previous channel you were watching - don't think it works for the input though. Also, depending on the model of the set you have, try downloading the PDF user or owners manual - it will tell you how to use the remote.
I have the same problem with my 49txi, and I called pioneer and a repair shop as well. Both told me that the 49txi has a known problem with over heating and that its boards unsolder themselves. I would have thought Pioneer would stand behind something this expensive, but that was the old Pioneer in the 80s, and the new Pioneer says we are on our own.
