Are you using any kind of Decoder or Set Top box to receive your TV signal?
If so you can connect the RCA OUTPUT from your cable or satellite decoder, to the Yamaha inputs. See the picture I have attached for you.
Then when you want to hear the sound from there, select DTV /CBL input on your remote control of the Yamaha receiver.

Or you can locate the SOUND or AV OUTPUT (Red and white RCA connection) at the back of you TV, and connect the cables from there to your Yamaha receiver.I cannot figure out how to get sound through my Ya - 9_9_2012_6_50_32_pm.jpg

I am not using any other boxes besides the receiver and TV. i plugged in the rca red and white cable into the TV and the other end into the receiver but still no sound. I turned off my TV speakers to see if that was the problem but still no sound.

Ok. I have done some searching, and LG specifies that the RCA must be used for other monitors etc. To get the sound to your receiver use he OPTICAL output at the back of your TV. - it is a black square and you need an Optical cable for this. Connect this to the Optical IN on your receiver. It is labelled - DIGITAL INPUT on the receiver. Remember to also set your recieier to accept Optical input on that channel

My TV does not have an Optimal output. Only HDMI and RCA plugs. i am thinking I might not need something else to get the sound out of my TV into my receiver. Thanks for all your input.

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V361 cuts off: check SP cable

Disconnect the speakers and turn on. If your receiver is ok, it will not go into protection "check spkrs" Then connect speakers, one by one, each time make sure the receiver is off, then turn it on. When you find the speaker that's causing the problem it will go into protection. At this time, disconnect the speaker at the speaker, then turn on again, if it still goes into protection, you have a speaker wire problem. If it stays on, you have a problem with the speaker. If you have a multimeter and know how to read it, check the impedance and the resistance. Check the internal workings of the speaker, bad surround from dryrot or smoked crossovers, etc. look for the obvious first. Hope this helps

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V361 DVD cuts off w/ check SP cable

This message means that speakers are not connected properly. What is their impedance? What is the impedance set on the receiver via Advanced Setup menu (see manual)? Check if it is not short-circuited.
Try the receiver without speakers connected. If the message goes away, receiver is OK and problem is in the connection to the speakers.

SOURCE: I have a Yamaha receiver Rx-v361. Suddenly no

Sounds like the receiver needs a proper burial.

Try Fm radio with stereo mode to see if you can get 2 speakers to light up.

Hope this helps.

Pairing Samsung remote to Yamaha RX-V361

Normally makers don't play ball between each other. Yes if it was a Samsung Television and a Samsung Receiver A/V System. Or if you have something like a Cable Box or Satellite System that is made to interact with other makes. Or if it is a Universal Remote.

I think you were just lucky that it happened to use the same frequency. Look in the manual for a scan command.

I have a yamaha Rx-v361 i get sound when in DVD mode, SAT mode but no sound in TUNER or AUX (MP3 player) modes, i checked all the wiring in the back of the unit and everything is connected. please advise

Tuner is internal so there's no way wrong 'wiring' could be the problem there.

Does the tuner actually 'tune' a station?

If you're using V-Aux on the front panel for your MP3 player, make sure you haven't assigned V-Aux to a digital function. Page 48.

Turntable connection

Yes, you'll need to purchase a PHONO PRE-AMP, and then connect the turntable to the pre-amp, and the pre-amp to the LINE INPUT of your receiver.
