Hi bluewingedfa,

I've got a few things to try:

  • First check that you have the very latest version of iTunes
  • Press and hold the Menu & Select buttons on the iPod
  • As soon as the screen goes blank press and hold the Play & Select until a screen with 'Ok to Disconnect' appears.
  • Now connect the iPod to the PC.
  • in iTunes goto the main iPod page and click the Restore button and follow it's intructions.
And that should get you back on track. If at anytime when you've connected it comes up with a suggestion to upgrade the iPods software, go ahead with it.

All the best
Sean

ITunes won't recognize my iPod nao (3rd gen., 4 gb)

Try put the cord in a diffrent port or slot besides the one you normally use. Some times they short out. Mines did. Or you could use someone else computer.

The new ipod nano

How old is it? if it's under warranty apple may fix it.
Simply, if you charge your iPod through you computer then the battery could be damaged. USB ports only put out 5 volts. If you have an AC charger that puts out 9.5 volts then consider charging it with that. Some AC adapters only put out 5 volts for the purpose matching the USB standard, but it's not good for the ipod.

IPOD Nano 8mb 2nd gen

Unfortunately, unplugging it during a restore or transfer is the one sure way to kill an Mp3 player. Before I became an expert, I too killed my first Mp3 player by unplugging during a firmware upgrade. Call Apple and see if you are under warranty, because that is definitely covered.

In theory you could reload the firmware on the device, but it just won't work, because you can't force the PC to recognize it at this point.

Last ditch effort - reset three times, and then plug it into computer while holding in the right part of the wheel. No promises.

Ipod nano 2nd generation won't fast forward

Turn repeat off in the menu.
Setting iPod nano to Repeat Songs
You can set iPod nano to repeat a song over and over, or to repeat a sequence of
songs. iPod nano repeats songs within the list you choose to play.
To set iPod nano to repeat songs:
m Choose Settings from the iPod nano main menu.
â To repeat all songs in the list, set Repeat to All.
â To repeat one song over and over, set Repeat to One.
To turn repat off, go to Repeat off.
