My Mac Powerbook is not recognizing my camera when I plug in the USB cable to upload my photos. I normal just plug in the cable to my camera then the laptop and iphoto will automatically recognize the camera and connect. I have tried to connect the cable to the laptop first then the camera, trashed the iphoto preferences, and rebooted my laptop while the camera is plugged in... but no success.
The camera itself recognizes that the cable is connected because when I plug the cable into the laptop (when it is attached to the camera) the message "USB mode" appears on teh camera's screen.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
Cheers
Gary

Re: Upload not working
Try resetting preferences on the laptop (take a hard copy of any settings first), close it down, turn it over and remove the battery, then press the start button for 10 seconds, refit battery and re boot, all your settings will be reset and now try

To upload your photographs using a USB cable, follow these steps:
Plug the correct end of the USB cable into the corresponding USB slot on your Canon camera.
Plug the fitting end of the USB cable into its correlating USB slot, either on the side of your laptop or on your computer tower.
Turn on your digital Canon Camera and wait for your computer screen to provide you with prompts.
Follow the directions on your screen to upload the photographs into your corresponding photography viewing software. This software can differ whether you have a Mac OS or Windows PC.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.
if using iPhoto, check for software updates. When the newer cameras come out, sometimes it results in incompatibility with the software and they're always working to update this. Also check your card in your camera. Some of the newer high speed cards struggle with uploads. You can purchase aftermarket high speed card readers and this will allow firewire rapid uploads direct to iPhoto and Aperture.

the Mac normally recognizes the camera and launches iPhoto. Try launching iPhoto, then plug in the usb cable. Make sure the connections are tight on the camera end of the cable.
