2166 stalls after it heats up

My tractor will run and continue to mow if I keep the hood up in the air while cutting. If the hood is closed the tractor will stall after about 1/2 hour. If I turn off the pto the tractor will continue to run. I cleaned the carb and put in a new ignition module still same problem. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you've got a bunch of debris around the engine, not allowing it to cool properly. I'd pull the shroud off the engine, and clean out any accumulated debris and clippings (considering your symptoms, I'd expect a lot of it. My preferred method is to use an air gun connected to my compressor - I don't like spraying under the shroud with pressurized water.

Look at all of the safety interlocks: seat must be down, drive must be in neutral, brake must be on, blades must be off, etc.

Stalls When engaging the blade clutch

Check that the blade brake is disengaging. Slip belt off blade spindles and check that they spin freely. Check underside of deck for clogged grass, ropes, wire, etc.

John deere lt155 lawn tractor shuts off when it gets hot while mowing, could this be electrical?

I had a similar problem lasy year.
Try this:
As soon as the machine seems to be stalling, loosen the gas cap.
If the engine continues to run, clean the gas cap vent hole(s).

A common loss of power problem with B&S V twins is a set of crumpled valve push rods. Means you are running on one cylinder which is generally OK unless you also want to mow. Easy to check, pull one plug wire at a time off. If it continues to run on one cylinder but not the other, that is your dead cylinder. As the intake is not opening, there will not be a wet plug. Costs nothing to check and could be your problem.

Stalling after mowing a little

Sounds like the float and needle need to be changed. The float is fluctuating too much causing the needle to raise out of the hole to the carb just enough to keep it running but not enough to stay running. Replace the needle and float. This is something a lot of people over look and most the time is the problem.
