Question about Audio Players & Recorders
Can’t open left cassette door and get cassette out because play function won't disengage. Tape keeps turning (but without sound) so long as power is on. This is accompanied by a mechanical whining noise never heard before.
Apparently pinch wheel is raised so that -- even when I unlatch door from inside -- it will only open a little bit. Have tried turning flywheel but still no luck. Belts all look okay.
It’s an RS-T18 deck.
Remove the cover to see if any belts under the cassette player is cut. Or to see if there are any obstructions.Remove the front cover.which will remove the tape housing of the cassette player. you can check for any broken plastic compoments that might be keeping the housing from opening.Or any belts that may have been cut.

I managed to get the cassette out by pressing the pause button while the machine was running, unlatching the door from the rear, then jiggling the door open which brought the cassette with it. Slight wrinkle in the tape but no other damage.
Of course this didn't solve the problem. The machine is still in the PLAY mode and neither the stop button nor any of the others has any effect.
I still haven't figured out what's causing the rubbing noise when the machine is running. I can't see anything that appears broken.
