Acer aspire 3000 dropped on floor. Random startup events
The laptop hit the floor hard.
turned laptop on.
got to acer splash screen. froze.
turned off(held power button for 4 seconds).
turned on again..
black screen. only visible on is power button.
turned off and on and got random results up to and including:
see desktop goto start menu. Locks up.
get as far as screen asking how to startup(normal, safemode)
choose safe mode.
5 times in a row black screen only.
wait 5 min while typing this message, get to acer splash screen, choose start windows manually, get to windows splash screen, scandisk, 86 percent completed...... locked up.... can't even use the fn keys to make screen go dim.....
The only consistent symptom is that after it locks up, it continues to lock up for every reset unless I let it sit for a bit............

Theres a good chance that the hard drive platletes and parking head have been damaged, although this is not a huge problem to replace, as long as your screen is working ok, then it is worth replacing.
you can access it on the underside of the casing, in the largest compartment, remove all screws and the hard drive will be held in with more screws.

It sounds like the Acer logo has been turned off in the bios settings. As soon as you hit the power button, start tapping the F2 key until you see the test appear "entering setup". Once you are in the BIOS, look for the Logo settings as far as being visible during Boot up. I've seen this setting on other systems so I am thinking the Acer should be similiar.
I am assuming that it starts up, goes to the windows splash screen, the reboots and starts the whole process again? Try to boot into safe mode: When you see the first screen, hit the F8 Key repeatedly, which should bring up a menu of boot options. Choose the safe mode option, and hit enter. If it boots into safe mode, I would start by running a checkdisk on the hard drive. Here's how: Hit the Windows key and the letter R, in the prompt that comes up type in cmd and hit enter. This should bring up the console. type in chkdsk /r/f in the prompt. It should say the drive is locked, and ask if you want to run on the next startup. Type y and enter. Then reboot. The checkdisk should run, and may be able to recover any bad sectors it finds. If it finds lots of problems, a more thorough diagnostic should probably be done, as the hard drive may be failing.
I suggest you check the settings of your bios. Normally this happens if your Hard drive is unreadable. Change the settings of the boot function to first boot on Hard disk and try to disable all other bootable hardwares like CD or network card.
Does it sound like it's starting up at all? Is the problem that only the screen turns blank? You might have just disabled the standard output. Try pressing Fn (bottom left on the keyboard) and the F5 on the top a few times to see if the screen toggles back on.
You might also try to run it without the battery, and on the battery only in case it's a faulty battery or power supply that causes the problem.
If not, it sounds lsike a serious problem, so if there is any chance of the waranty still being valid I'd call acer support asap.
