Why can't I hear callers? The headphone icon is on screen.
When someone calls me on my phone I can't hear them but they can hear me, I have to switch to loudspeaker to talk to them.
There is also a small headphone icon on the phone's screen. I read through the user's guide and apparently this icon means you have headphones plugged into the phone (which I don't).
I called Nokia Support and they suggested I take the phone to a service centre but I will be charged a fee for having it fixed. Surely there is an easy way to fix the phone.
My baby son was chewing on the phone prior to this problem starting.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe try plugging headphones into it. That will tell you if the sound is dead or not. Also, on a lot of devices, there is a speaker kill switch integrated into the headphone jack that may be dirty or just need to be moved a few times with your headphone plug. However, if the caller can't hear you, it may be the audio circuit of the phone has gone to be with other Samsungs in the sky.
Check the hole inside the headphone jack. It can get clogged with lint over time and either make a bad connection if you are using headphones, or remain partially pressed from inserting headphones. Use a small paper clip to gently loosen any debris.
Your handset thinks that you have headphones connected.
Make sure there is nothing stuck in the headset connector port, and make sure it is clean.
If thats not the problem, then it may be cured via a software upgrade or it may need a hardware repair.
Either way your gonna have to take it to a shop to be done, unless youve got the required equipment to hand.
Not certain... but you need to check menu - tools - settings - general - enhancement and make sure your default is set to "headset".
When you plug headphones only (not the headset/mic combo) into the 2.5mm jack, it will go into a headphone mode where you can hear through the headphones but you must speak through the phone microphone - it sounds like it is going into that mode on you. It can only be the setting above or possible a short in the jack (though that doesn't really explain why it is happening only when you receive a call).
If you have 2.5mm headsets (or can pick up a small 3.5 to 2.5 adapter), you can also try having them call you and see if you can hear through the headphones - that would prove it is going into headphone only mode.
Same here. I tried many things but cannot ring it back to headset mode. I continuously see the headphone icon shown in the phone, so it seems that the phone thinks that it is still connected to earphones. Sometimes, it works fine, but mostly it does not. If I connect the phone on bluetooth earphones, it works fine. Any help will be appreciated.
