Is it possible that a piece of tape or packing material is still in place and physically preventing the printer from functioning properly?
If Solution one fails to resolve the issue, check in the brown belt area to the left of the cartridge carriage for any tape that might be anchoring it down. As the setup instructions will tell you WHEN to connect the printer and will confirm the connection during the setup, DO NOT have the USB line connected before that or you will have to redo the setup from the supplied CD. If you were able to install your cartridges, then the printer should be operational. There could also be an interlock limiting carriage movement if the lid is raised as that is normally done to install or replace cartridges AFTER instructions are followed in the printer display to reposition the carriage to allow it to be opened. I hope this will be of help to you.

Try turning it off and taking out the ink cartridges and putting them back in. If that doesn't work it could be defective. If it's new then it should be under warranty.
