I was given a new in the box Epson RX680 All in One. After opening the box and removing all the tape cardboard I proceeded to follow the startup instructions. I got as far as to turn the unit on and received the printer error has occured. This is the first time the unit has ever been turned on. No paper or even any ink in the unit. The ink carraige seems to be stuck on the right side of the printer and will only move a fraction of an inch. The travel bar then rotates and the error occurs. Any ideas???

Follow these steps to print the nozzle check:

1. Make sure plain, letter-size paper is loaded in the sheet feeder.



2. Make sure the CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the Epson Stylus and the CD/DVD guide is in the paper printing position.



3. Press the Setup button.



4. Press or to select Maintenance and press OK.



5. Select Nozzle Check, then press OK.





6. Press Start to print the nozzle check.

Run the Head Cleaning utility to clear any clogged ink nozzles. To run the Head Cleaning Utility, follow the instructions below.

For Windows users:

1) Make sure that your printer is ON and the error light is off.

2) Access the printer software.

3) Click the Utility tab, then click the Head Cleaning button.

4) Follow the on-screen instructions

5) When the power light stops flashing, click Print nozzle check pattern in the Head Cleaning dialog box to confirm that the head is clean and to reset the cleaning cycle

If you find that any segments are missing from the nozzle check pattern, you may need to repeat the head cleaning and print the pattern again.

Or u could consult the user manual
u should let the ink settle for 12-24 hrs???

You can set it to "grayscale" and supposedly print only in black/grey.
However, Epson printers use a small amount of every color even when printing black only or greyscale (black). Your printer will still not work with one color tank empty.

Here is how to set it:
Open the properties page for the RX680 and on the "Main" tab, click on [Advanced]. A Note may appear egarding incorrect settings.
Click [Continue]. Find the [ ] Grayscale box and check it, the [OK]
[OK], etc.

First question: have you the skills to open the printer?
Second: it is affecting the funcionality?
If both answers are not, then keep working.
If you want to open the printer, find and download the service manual, fin it in google, some places give it free, other ask for a donation and anothers sell all via paypal.Good luck

New problem?Always worked before on this same computer?  Have you tried reinstalling the computer and driver?

Call Epson again and complain. This is a known defect on new machines shipped. I had the same problem and they sent me a new printer under warranty (same model) without any issues. The new one works perfectly.

Try turning it off and taking out the ink cartridges and putting them back in. If that doesn't work it could be defective. If it's new then it should be under warranty.

I had the same issue when the printer arrived. I powered the unit off, moves the ink cradle to the left about 1/2 " then powered it on. Then it worked from there.
