Question about Panasonic PT-47WX42 47" Rear Projection Television
My TV has started to act up lately. It is a Panasonic PT-47WX42 47 and we have had it for 5 yrs. When we turn it on, the red becomes very prominent., and sometimes when changing between channels,(especialy between analog and HDTV channels) the screen goes blank and comes back after a little while. The verizon fios screen menus which are blue, becomes darker and the whole screen is darker. Any help will be great.
Do a reset to this TV, and then check. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. SOURCE: Picture doesn't work..Panasonic 47 inch TV PT-47WX42
Dood, if you really needed a new mother board for your TV the biggest problem on your hands would be finding the replacement. The motherboard is so easy to remove it would make you laugh. I think it has four clip bridges and four of five screws. You seperate the clip bridges, take the screws off and maybe take a picture of the cables so you remember where to plug them in and you're done. Like I said, take a snap shot so you dont forget where to put your cables back in.

That is indicating that the convergence circuits have shutdown the set. You will need new Convergence ICs. They should be STK392-110 or STK392-120 either number works the 120 being the better chip. I will post a link where you can get the new ICs and they provide step by step instructions with pics so you can do the repair yourself. You will find your IC numbers under the section titled Convergence ICs just click on that and you will find your STK numbers.

SOURCE: I have a problem with my Tv pt-47wx42
Your symptoms sounds like a damaged convergence IC.
There are two and sometimes three very large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink.
If your colors line up in the middle of the set and at the top but the picture is concave then you may have a faulty component in the pincushion circuit. When this circuit fails the picture will have an hourglass shape to it with black in the middle on the sides, or you will see square objects as hourglass shapes. If it is like you described and it is in the top and bottom, you may have a problem in the top and bottom pincushion circuit.
You stated that the charge will be $80.00 to diagnose this problem, I would ask if the diagnostic applies to the repair, if you choose to repair the set.
I have seen this type of repair run from $250.00 - $350.00.
If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon and it should only add the cost of the part to the repair.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
