This means you need to replace the guitar because something is faulty on it.

i have exact same problem but the guitar works fine on my original big version ps2, just not the new slim version
The red light on both the receiver and the controller keep blinking and the buttons don't work at all. I tried everything in the instructions for the controller for troubleshooting but nothing works. What else can I do?
purchased my guitar hero 3 a while back and finally took it out to play. both lights are blinking, but none of the buttons work at all. I tried a regular analog controller and it worked fine then. Very disappointing that a brand new guitar doesn't work right out of the box
