No you cannot put a 2 1/2 ton compressor into a 2 ton condensor. you could put a smaller compressor into a condenser and you will gain effeciency put loose capacity

SOURCE: want to know capacitor specs.

The capaitors should be clearly marked on the original capacitors. You will find a voltage rating and an MFD rating printed on them. The rule is you can go 10% over but never under on the ratings.

SOURCE: have evaporator coil 2 tons and condensor 2 1/2

This mixmatch will work but during times of low temps ( during rain or at night) you may liquid flood the compressor, Watch your super heat at the compressor or your (line temp verses press relation).

SOURCE: Hi. I have an older house that is about 1100

no a/c systems should not be over sized. an a\c unit does 2 kinds of heat removal latent and sensible.latent heat removal is the removeal of water from the air sensible is the actual cooling of the air. a larger than neded a\c system wont run as long and wont remove as much moisture from the air but will still cool really well to well in fact the house will get cold but it will still be wet. so what you wil end up with is a cold clammy uncomfortable house

Just replaced the capacitor, and reconnected. Turned power on and heard a buzzing sound from the condensor, then the fan turned on. the unit only runs for a few minutes then shuts off

The buzz is the compressor failing to start. The blue or purple wire from the compressor goes to herm on the capacitor. If it's wired right and does not stare the compressor is bad.

Will goodman outdoor ac work with bryant indoor unit

This is true as long as it is not a heat pump. Make sure they replace the piston (metering device to match the outdoor units required piston size. Or if the indoor coil is metered via TXV, it will automatically meter the refrigerant flow. If you are mismatching a system, make sure an acid test is performed on the old refrigerant and take appropriate measures with the new system if the test shows positive acid. They need to definitely install a liquid line drier.

I have a 25 year old Ruud A/C. The outdoor fan isn't turning and I can hear the condensor humming. There are 2 capacitors in the the electronics box that the schematic says are running capacitors. ...

The 3 microferad capacitor goes to the fan motor. The bigger one goes to the compressor. If the capacitor is swollen or pregnant looking it is shorted and needs to be changed. If it has discharged oil it has shorted out. If you can't read the mfd (microferad) you can go by the rated tonnage of the air cond for rule of thumb.

2 ton condenser = 25mfd capacitor
3 ton condenser= 35 mfd capacitor
4 ton condenser= 45 mfd
5 ton = 55 mfd

again, this is rule of thumb but should get your unit running again.

remove cover on your stat using a small wire not touching the ends jump red-power to yellow compressor should start red to green fan should come on im assuming the installer used the most common wire configurations these test can also be peformed at the inside the furnace remember 24volts is present sounds like your thermostat is bad easy to determine using the test i mentioned good luck

Condensor fan went out on 1999 ruud heat pump.

Did you try pushing in the contactor to see if the unit will even run?

I t sounds as if the run capacitor is goinmg bad. You have a start and run capacitor in the unit the start side could be good however the run side is losing voltage and wont let the compressor run at its peak causing a thermal overload shutting down the unit for safety.

Would suggest the rplacement of the capacitor first then go from there

I need help selecting the best Amana 5 ton furnace/ac.

I believe you are asking which furnace to go with?

Just some clarification first.

The "condensor" is the outdoor unit.
A "Compressor" is the device inside the outdoor unit that pumps and "compresses" the refridgerant.

An evaporator is the indoor coil, it has refridgerant running through it.

The furnace is completely seperat from the condensor and evaporator.

I "THINK" you are saying that you are looking to buy an AMANA system with a 5 ton 14 to 16 SEER condensor, and a furnace, but you need suggestions on the furnace.

typically when you purchace a condensor, the evaporator coil is simply matched by the manufacturer to the specific condensor you purchace, there is no choosing to deal with. All condensors ofcourse come with a compressor already installed.

If my assumption about your request is correct, maybe this will help.

Amana's 90+ furnaces are great units. I would recomend them to anyone. The 80+ uses a somewhat inferior heat exchanger, and is ofcourse less efficient.
Anything higher than a 90+ can take quite a while to recoup the costs of the enitial purchace through your efficiency savings.

If it were my home, I would go with the 90+ furnace, and the 16 SEER Condensor/evaporator system. But ultimatly, its up to you, your efficiency standards and your wallets potential.

If you live in a northern state where AC is little needed, I'd go with the 14 SEER AC.
Again, an initial cost verses long term savings issue.
