NOT WORKING WITH WINDOWS VISTA UPGRADE

I have had a probem with my dvd burner ever since I upgraded to windows vista . I would like a solution for this problem and how to avoid it in the future. My computer does not recognize the dvd burner any more.

    Same deal, my computer lists it in the control panel but not when looking under my computer. I went to sony's website and I downloaded the firmware. However, when running the program it says the drive isnt installed. ?...what now?

    I have the EXACT SAME problem...except I'm about 10 seconds from throwing this laptop out the window!! Vista has been nothing but TROUBLE!! The second my upgrade was complete...I had lost EVERYTHING....on my laptop! Now, after having it fixed (or I thought) it still does not recognize the Burner!!!! HELP!!

If you have vista, there will be glitches, just like most Operating Systems, when there brand new, i guess once there have been many updates for vista things will look better

I need solution for this problem immediately I installed windows 7 in my PC. after that in My PC DVD RW is not working.
Was the Windows 7 installed from a clean slate or you upgraded from Vista to Windows 7? If you have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, then this is definitely a driver problem. You can try to update the driver by going to Device Manager, check if the DVD drive is listed. Pull down the drop down list, and right click on the devices listed under DVD/CD-ROM Drives and choose Update Driver Software.
If the DVD drive came with a software bundle (e.g. Nero Burning Application) Try reinstalling these application under Windows 7 Environment.

Need Vista driver for external DVD writer of LG model GSA-5169D
There aren't any such drivers.  The drive control protocols are standardized.  Just do Windows Update a few times and make sure the thing's connected when you restart storage subsystems (pretty much a reboot; though installing Nero will of course get things going if you don't love Vista built-in tools.)

how did you use it? where you using your dvd rom when you were still in vista basic then upgraded it to vista ultimate? if so, probably you havent installed the drivers for your dvd rom after upgrading to ultimate.
