Sorry to hear about the mess. Let's start with the clean up of the ink. Use a dry cloth or paper towel to wipe up the ink that has spilled out of the cartridge. Wipe gently so you don't do any damage to the internal components of your printer. The ink will likely color the inside of your printer - That's okay. Just make sure you get anything that puddles. It should not look wet.
On to the non-moving cartridge carrier. The standard fix for this is to do a hard reset on the printer. Follow these steps.
1. Unplug the power cord and remove the paper from the paper tray.
2. Move the carriage all the way to the right, close the lid and reconnect the power cord.
3. The printer will make some noise as it starts back up. Wait until it stops making noise.
4. Open the printer lid. The carriage should return to its normal position.
5. Try printing again.
If this does not work, then damage has been done to the internal components. You will need to get the printer serviced by a repair person.

The printer primes and cleans the cartridges when the cartridges go to the right side of carriage. Sounds like a cartridge has either leaked or you have used it enough the the ink pool is full, or you have layed the printer on its side or back. From experence, if ink is leaking out of the printer, your probley better off getting anithe printer. I have tried to take the covers off and clean inside print, and it is a messy job.

actually your printer needs servicing but for temprory solution.take a bunch of tissue paper .keep the printer on and the printer cover open so the cartridge will be in the center.then with the tissue paper place it internally on the side from where its leaking.the sponge which collects the wastage ink is at present got full and now it does not have the capacity to soak the ink.so its leaking.as you will place the tissue papers the ink will be soaked by tissue paper and the sponge will again become bit dry to soak more ink.but its the temprory solution.to make it permanent get the printer serviced and sponge replaced.the problem is not all serious ,its common.every printer comes to this stage after certain usage.and the servicing is the solution.a local printer repair shop also does the servicing job .
hope this helps.
thanks.

How do I "strip" the HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Wireless All-in-one Printer in order to clean the waste tank and repair a leak with the Cyan ink cartridge?
