Hiya, I was wondering if you had any ideas on how to solve the problem I'm having with my sons 3rd Gen ipod? The screen is white when turned on and I cannot see any writing or icons. The ipod is recognised in itunes, plays the tunes on it and can be updated. Tried the 5 R's, I get a dark line across the screen but nothing else(different positions!) I've checked, unlugged and reconnected the connections inside and they seem to be fine. I was going to buy a screen replacement but don't want to go to the expense if its not faulty. I've checked around the net and apart from 'Zolved', can't find anything useful. I would be grateful for any suggestions you might have, thanks Gill
Reset the iPod:
If the reset doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode.
Put iPod into Disk Mode:
Apple suggests that you ensure your iPod is charged before following
the next step. How exactly you check a charge on an iPod screen that
is completely white has yet to be revealed. But hey, give it a shot
anyway. Plug the iPod into a high-powered USB port, let it sit for 2
hours, then disconnect it. If you have a wall charger, plug in the
iPod, then follow these steps while it is still plugged in.
For a lot of people, this solves the problem. Connect the iPod to the
computer and (assuming it shows up) reset the iPod again to get it out
of Disk Mode. If at this point you still have the white screen,
restore the iPod using the restore function in iTunes under the Summary
tab (this will erase everything on the iPod and put it at factory
settings).
Don't disconnect or eject the iPod until the store is totally done. After you think it's done, wait another five minutes.

Hey, I just had the same problem a couple minutes ago. if i'm right, what i had is what you have, where it is a blank white screen and you can't do anything on it. What I did, is put it on unlocked mode, and wait for it to go to the black screen ( the screen it goes to when you haven't touched the wheel for some time ) and let it sit there for about 10 mins. That's what worked for me. It was back up and running for good. This happened I THINK because i had my ipod in my xbox 360 and turned it off when my ipod was still connected.

I had the same problem awhile ago. Restore it and then allow the iPod to fully charge. Leave it connected to a wall power-source for a day or two.

So I have the white screen and the beeping. No amount of soft/hard reboots fixes the issue. Just sucks that I wasted my money on an 8gb piece of **** that lasted a whole 6 months. It was very well taken care of. At least I have the pleasure of taking a hammer to the piece of **** now.
