Firewire/USB 2.0 both dont work..

Hey, my problem is that when i plug in my device with the USB 2.0 it tells me it detects a USB Mass Storage device but then the external HDD won't even show up on "My Computer" for use. When i use the fire wire it detects it as a IEEE 1394 device and all but it still won't show up. I go to device manager and both when they show up on the list say they aren't working properly. Drivers may be the problem but the site for the device says XP/2000 don't need drivers and only has drivers for 98/macos8.6 displayed. A solution would be much appreciated.

Plug in the device( kmake sure hard drive is connected inside) Go to computer management(right click on my computer and select manage) on the left pane select disk management on the right pane you'll see the drives(If a screen pops up saying about initialize disks, then proceed with that) in the right pane if you see any unallocated volumes(big black box, full black) with the same size of your disks then you can right click on em and create a partition! The Create partition comes up and give you options to format and everything, after that completes you'll see the drive in My computer! If you don't see the unallocated drive, then go oer the drive and account for all of em, if there an extra one without a drive letter then that could be your disk! If you have any problems or this isn't the problem, please let me know! regards, babb
