This morning I got up and turned on our JVC AV-32F704 television and walked into the kitchen. I could hear the tv was on but when I came back into the living room I noticed there is no screen. It is black, sound only. I have tried messing with it but nothing seems to help. The TV is only a couple years old so I am not to happy at the moment. I do not think there is a repair man in our town so I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions? I am guessing picture tube but I have no idea.
Thanks
Have same problem on a AV-32F703. Diagnosed and found it to be a short between G1 and G2 in the picture tube. Presumably some crud. Zapped it with a charged cap and a perfect picture came back -- for about 5 minutes then black again. Checked again and a 1K short was back between G1 and G2 grids. Zapped again but now picture is very bright -- appears to have a very high resistance short between focus and screen grid now. Probably splattered the crud onto the focus grid. Was worth a try. It might be a loose solder connection inside, try to prove it,the next time it goes blank, firmly give a whack to the back or bottom of the set,if it flashes back......sholud be a loose solder conn that a competent technician can find and repair
Is there any picture at all? No matter what the video input. Is this a CRT or LCD? If it is a CRT chances are the CRT is blown. Did you hear a pop the last time it powered up? Does the Menu come up?
If you can take it back I would, if it is turning its self off it has issues. It may have been dropped and a board may be cracked, or some other issue. sorry.
You didn't mention if you saw fine white diagonal lines running through the screen from top to bottom. If so, you likely have a shorted Picture Tube which is not usually fixable. If there are no lines seen running through the screen, then it is possible the High voltage transformer which also has a screen voltage and focus control built in that could be bad. I would expect the cost of that part to be about $100, so the repair cost total could approach that of a new set I would guess.
I have the JVC I Art 46" TV. The Close Caption was turn on accidentally by my grandson. After lots of searching for the original remote. I called JVC Customer Support. He told me to change the Close Caption settings to CC2 and T1. That fixed the CC without having the original remote.
