Question about Panasonic PT-56HX41 56" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I need help please...

First Timer on forum needs help. My projection tv just devloped a problem that makes the picture seem 3-d and the colors overlapping. The red will not converge when trying to do a manual converge. I read through several forums that the convergence IC could be bad. Any idea where to buy a convergence IC, and what the actual part name is? See the attached pic. I welcome any and all feedback to get the problem fixed. Figures the extended warranty I bought expired last year. The TV is only 5 years old. Any idea how much it would cost to fix it myself? And what is the exact name of the part? Is IC short for something? I have a picture if that will help diagnose the problem.

You will need to replace the convergence output IC's and check the resistors in that circuit.

I have a panosonic TX-47PT1. No problem since new. 3 days ago the convergance went. The colours (mainly red ) have slightly seperated and become a horizontal wave. I have read the forums and it seems there...

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

3-D picture with color lines

Seems TV has dry/ cold solder joints (loos connections) in convergence out section.
Please check cold/ dry solder joints in convergence out section in TV, specially on pins of convergence out ICs. resolder these solder joints and all would be fine.

Color flickers on and off

I went to the Sony support page for your model.(link below)http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=KP61V85&LOC=3
They are undergoing maintenance right now, so I couldn't find any answers for you. I would check back with the website to see if they can help you. If the Standby timer light flashes, you may need to have the TV repaired. There is a "Hot Topics" section for "How to troubleshoot television picture issues" that will probably be very helpful to you.
